Oscar-winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence has continued to touch all sorts of genres, portraying some of the most impactful roles. Now, The Hunger Games alum expressed her wish to play Bridget Jones, a role another Oscar-winning star, Renée Zellweger has continued to play since Bridget Jones’s Diary.
As the fourth film got confirmed to be in active development, Lawrence isn’t in sync with the idea of reimagining the iconic character based on the Helen Fielding-authored novels of the same name. Instead, Jennifer Lawrence wishes, she’d originated the role in the $273 million film that made 10x profit at the box office.
Jennifer Lawrence Doesn’t Like The Sound Of A Fourth Bridget Jones’ Movie!
In an interview with Den of Geek, Jennifer Lawrence expressed her wish to play the titular character in the Bridget Jones film series. The actress, who became the face of the X-Men franchise described how she doesn’t like the idea of a reboot for Bridget Jones’s Diary. She said:
“I’ve always wanted to play Bridget Jones, I want that movie to not exist so I can do that. I’ve always felt that way.”
The actress also expressed the reason behind her desire to play Bridget Jones, a role played by Renée Zellweger. Lawrence likes the sense of comfortability and familiarity that the character and the films breed.
Lawrence continued:
“I say that because that’s like, that’s that movie that you put on whenever you’re homesick – I know England’s not my home, but – like whenever you’re like ‘grrrr’.
…And you put on that movie that you never get sick of watching, that’s Bridget Jones for me so it’s very natural for me to be like, I want to be Bridget Jones!”
The English romantic comedies grossed more than $744 million at the worldwide box office. After the success of three films, a fourth film was announced to be in development in October 2022.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Wish Isn’t Granted!
Last year, it was revealed that Bridget Jones’s Diary author, Helen Fielding started working on a fourth film, which is a movie adaptation of her 2013 book, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Fielding said back then:
“Yeah, I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen. Every film that gets made is a miracle. I think it’s really difficult to make films and to make them happen.
And to make them good and we want it to be really good. But I really hope so. I’d love to see it on the screen.”
Per the novel’s author, the fourth installment sees Bridget Jones — now a 51-year-old mother of two — navigating “head lice epidemics, school-picnic humiliations and cross-generational sex” and learning “life isn’t over when you start needing reading glasses.” The movie also has a tragic twist.
In a previous interview, when asked about reprising the iconic role, Renée Zellweger joked, “Bridget Jones: The Menopause.” While the entire cast hasn’t been announced yet, Jennifer Lawrence’s wish wouldn’t be granted because Zellweger is reportedly making a comeback as Bridget Jones.
