Tom Hanks has always been an incredible example for the up-and-coming stars in the industry. A creative visionary and terrific actor, the 67-year-old star has won numerous hearts with his captivating and award-winning performances on-screen. Best known for portraying the character of Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks has always been widely commended for his amazing work by his juniors as well as peers.
But when asked how he would feel if he got cast into an erotica movie like the Dacota Johnson starrer Fifty Shades trilogy, the Saving Private Ryan star didn’t take long to blast the $1.3B franchise for corrupting Hollywood with its explicit s-x scenes that left even him perplexed.
Tom Hanks Criticized Fifty Shades Franchise For Showcasing Explicit Content
This dates back to 2015 when the first movie from the Fifty Shades franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey was released. Being a movie that took erotic romance to a whole new level, it attracted much controversy for its explicit content – not just from the general audience, but from the industry’s legends as well.
Weighing in on the uncensored n-de scenes in the movie, Tom Hanks openly criticized Dakota Johnson’s $1.3B Fifty Shades franchise for showcasing graphic n-dity exhibitionism, saying,
“I want nobody doing that on-screen. In movies there’s no place for it. I’m the last guy you’ll cast in some big passionate clinch kind of thing.”
But that wasn’t all and Tom Hanks wasn’t the only one, judging how numerous other actors and actresses too stepped up and even claimed that the Fifty Shades movie series was only created in a frantic and desperate attempt at grabbing fame.
Other Stars’ Takes On The New Fifty Shades Of Grey N-de Scenes
Tom Hanks, however, wasn’t the only Hollywood actor to exhibit disgust at the movie’s crude and vulgar scenes and express denial at even the thought of being cast in one. Several other stars too remarked on the Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan starrer movie.
These included Leelee Sobieski, who when asked what she would do if getting cast in a similar movie remarked rather sarcastically,
“Nudity? If you didn’t see my boobs, butt, or lower area — sure.”
Then came Meryl Streep, the Mamma Mia! actress. Speaking on how she would feel to be cast in such a movie, the Devil Wears Prada star said,
“I don’t exercise and don’t feel the need to stay in shape because I don’t take my clothes off in movies.”
Moreover, the legendary actress Julia Roberts too commented on the movie’s explicit content display and her opinion of being cast in one. The Pretty Woman actress said,
“Acting with clothing on is a performance. Clothing off, it’s a documentary. I don’t do documentaries.”
With the movie trilogy going ahead to display multiple lewd instances during the time that it aired, it did not acquire good reviews from the audience either, ending up with a mere 24% ratings from Rotten Tomatoes.
