Jackie Chan shared many details of his life, including his experience winning an Oscar, in his autobiographical book Never Grow Up. He eventually won one in 2016. Chan said that, 30 years ago, he visited Sylvester Stallone’s home and touched, kissed, and smelled the Oscar displayed therein. Receiving the award was a “dream” for Chan.

I told myself. I really want one,” Chan told the rapturous audience. Now he can at last say he has an Oscar. “After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, I’ve broken so many bones, finally this is mine,” he said.

In his speech, he shared a unique memory of the first time he saw an Oscar close. He was visiting his friend Sylvester Stallone at that time. He described himself as kissing the award while simultaneously touching it.

He said, “I touched it, I kissed it, I smelled it. I believe it still has my fingerprints on it.

My dad always said to me, ‘son, you’ve got so many movie awards in the world, when do you get one of these?’” Chan said. When asked, he had a funny response and said that he probably won’t get one because he only makes action-com movies.

Jackie Chan received an honorary Oscar in 2016 after 56 years of acting. However, Chan said during his acceptance speech that he never imagined he would win an Oscar because he specializes in comic action films only.

The actor, who was born in Hong Kong, was beyond thrilled to get a call from Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs informing him about the award. Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks was quick to point out that action comedies are frequently woefully underrated in the world of the Oscars.

In his autobiography, he mentioned that winning the Oscars never appeared possible to him. He said, “I never thought winning an Oscar was remotely possible.” His movies had a tremendous fanbase in Asia. But initially, they did not receive much recognition from the west. “Didn’t think anyone in America would notice my work”, he added.

They saw (referring to his work) after 56 years I did not change; I was doing the same thing, which is why they decided to give me the Oscar. I think one should continue to do their best always. Oscars came to me and I did not go to Oscars,” he said.

He received the acclaim he deserved at the Oscars after giving countless outstanding performances.
