Hollywood stars go to intense levels in order to prepare for their roles. While some gain weight, many actors develop muscles and sometimes even lose a couple of pounds. Charlie Hunnam also shared how he had to lose 10 pounds within 10 days to prepare for his role in The Lost of City Z. The Gentlemen star had to transform his body after he gained muscles for his role in King Arthur and Hunnam says it wasn’t a pleasing experience for him.
The British actor portrayed Percy Fawcett, a British archaeologist, who disappeared in 1925 while his expedition to find the ancient lost city of “Z.” The 2016 film The Lost City of Z was based on Percy Fawcett’s story. The film was highly praised by critics but still failed to make it big at the box office.

Charlie Hunnam Made James Gray Cry
Charlie Hunnam portrayed the British archaeologist Percy Fawcett in the 2016 film, The Lost City of Z. The film was based on true events and followed Percy Fawcett’s journey to find the ancient city of “Z” While the actor lost around 35 pounds to prepare for the role, the weight loss journey did not have a great start for him.
Prior to the filming of the 2016 adventure film, Hunnam wrapped up the shooting of King Arthur. To portray King Arthur, the Pacific Rim star had to follow an intense workout and diet. He developed muscles and was 185 LBS by the time he started filming for The Lost City of Z.
However, the Cold Mountain star was too ripped for his role in the James Gray Film. Talking about the film Charlie Hunnam said, “ I was in a costume fitting and I took my shirt off and revealed my physique, and he started to cry.”
The Crimson Peak star shared that he knew those were not tears of joy. Looking at Hunnam, James Grey told him that Hunnam just ruined his film as he needed a victorian gentleman for the film, not a pugilist.

Charlie Hunnam Shared His Weight Loss Journey for The Lost City of Z
After shocking the American filmmaker, Charlie Hunnam assured him that he would transform himself in ten days. The actor then decided not to eat anything for 10 days and lost 10 pounds in those 10 days.
“I said don’t worry I got 10 days. So I didn’t eat anything for 10 days and I lost 10 pounds. So I was already down to 175.” After this, the Triple Frontier went on to lose 35 pounds more while filming. He revealed that he was only consuming between 400-500 calories a day.
“We were starving, and it was incredibly humid and hot, so we didn’t have to imagine too much of the hardship those guys were enduring,” said Hunnam
However, he was not the only actor who went through an extreme weight loss for the 2016 film. His co-star Robert Pattinson also had to lose 45 pounds for his role.

Charlie Hunnam Says He Can’t Do it Again
After losing around 45 pounds for The Lost City of Z, the Papillon star once again lost 30 pounds for his role in the 2017 film. He shared that it was an interesting experience. However, the actor has made it clear that he is not ready to go through such a transformation again.
He said, “I can’t do it again. I’m not gonna lose weight like that again.” He then shared that right after he finished Papillon, he was offered the lead in a film based on the IRA Hunger Strikes. He was then told that he has to lose weight for the film.
He said that even though he wanted to do that film, he couldn’t agree to it. Charlie Hunnam also shared that he lost a number of films due to this reason. He recently starred in the television series Shantaram and is set to appear in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon.
Rebel Moon is expected to release in 2023.
