With the Guardians portraying a significant role in the storyline, they were naturally under the orders of Joe and Anthony Russo. According to actor Chris Pratt, director James Gunn was so protective of his characters that he did not like several aspects of the movie. Talking about it in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt and actress Pom Klementieff and James Gunn talked about how they would often defy the hierarchy of power by talking with the Guardians of the Galaxy director.

“They did some things that I wouldn’t have wanted,” said Gunn. Chris Pratt further added his side of things about how he and Klemmentiff would talk with James Gunn about a certain decision that the character has taken in the MCU.

“I was being given directions, and I was like, ‘I think I’m going to call James,’

Although the final decision rested in Joe and Anthony Russo’s hands, the admiration that Pratt and Klemmentiff had for James Gunn was indeed remarkable. As per the director, there was one point in the movie in which he strongly disagreed with his character which was quite a pivotal and significant point in the MCU.

We are in the endgame now. With creative freedom at hand, Chris Pratt’s character of Peter Quill/Star-Lord punched Thanos in the face when the Avengers had the Mad Titan at their mercy. This was a pretty significant moment in the MCU which extended the franchise by adding another movie.

According to James Gunn, Peter Quill would have definitely killed Gamora if she requested but he would not have ever punched Thanos in the face no matter how bad it got. With the hiatus surrounding the third and final film of the franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for a release date of 5th May 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
