Harrison Ford is one of the prominent stars of the Hollywood industry, who is famous for his role as Indiana Jones. The actor has been part of the entertainment industry for four decades and has given some iconic hits. Some of his box office successes include Blade Runner, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Air Force One, and Frantic, among others.
The actor has given several hits in his vast career span, however, Ford still regrets passing on the role that gave George Clooney an Academy Award.
Harrison Ford regrets rejecting role in Syriana
Harrison Ford is undoubtedly the acting legend of Hollywood who had given multiple classics in his career span. Despite being one of the A-listers of the cinematic universe, the actor still has some regrets in his life. One of his biggest regrets includes his rejecting a prominent role in Steve Gaghan’s film, which ultimately landed with George Clooney.
Harrison Ford talked about his regret in a conversation with Irish Examiner,
“I saw a bit of [director] Steve Gaghan’s movie Syriana and I wish I’d played the part that was offered to me – George [Clooney’s] part.”
“I didn’t feel strongly enough about the truth of the material and I think I made a mistake. I think the film underwent some changes and I think a lot of it is very truthful. The things that I thought weren’t, were obviated after I left the table.”
The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards and is counted among the best works of George Clooney.
George Clooney’s role in Syriana
In the 2005 political thriller film Syriana, George Clooney played the role of a CIA field agent named Barnes, who has to prevent arms deals in the Middle East. But as he fails in the task, he is given a desk job but does not work in his favor. Hence he is assigned the task of the assassination of an Emirates foreign minister (Alexander Siddig). The plot of the film comprises five different storylines.
It is loosely based on a true story, where a United States energy company faced turmoil in the Middle East. The movie was nominated for Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay category and was critically appreciated upon its release.
Clooney had worked hard to get the perfect physique for the role. He also had to endure several injuries for the same.
Talking about a torture scene he shared with Slash Films,
“[T]he hardest obviously was me getting tortured. The problem was that I got injured along the way. I thought I had an aneurysm. It was a long, drawn-out… it was a couple of days of sitting in a room taped to a chair and getting buckets of water, which isn’t in the film anymore. There’s a lot more torture to it that you don’t see … Sort of like what we’re doing in the administration! Just kidding! But anyway, I think that was by far the toughest scene to shoot, but it should have been; it was designed to be that way.”
George Clooney won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the movie. It seems legitimate now that Ford would regret leaving the part.
Harrison Ford will be seen in his final Indy outing with the film Indiana Jones 5 releasing soon. He will also be playing the role of Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming Captain America movie.
