Nicolas Cage’s married life is one of the most talked about topics in Hollywood. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent actor has been hitched five times – his latest marriage was held in Las Vegas in February 2021 to Riko Shibata, 28.
The Ghost Rider star met Shibata in Shiga, Japan through mutual friends while filming for Prisoners of the Ghostland. They were first photographed as a couple in 2020 while paying a visit to Cage’s pyramid-shaped tomb at a New Orleans cemetery.
Nicolas Cage Vows Road To Forever With His Fifth Marriage
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, National Treasure actor Nicolas Cage confessed that he’s happy with his fifth marriage and believes it to be his last:
“I’m really happily married. I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time.”
In April 2022, he told GQ Magazine that he wants his present love life to last forever:
“I am a romantic, and when I’m in love, I want to give that person everything I can. It’s my expression of saying, ‘I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.’ And this is it for me. I mean, this is not happening again. This is it. This is it.”
Cage revealed his engagement to Shibata through his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show:
“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada, and I haven’t seen her for six months. We were really happy together and we were really excited to spend that time together, so I finally just said, ‘Look, I wanna marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime.”
The actor gave Shibata a customized and personalized black diamond ring and sent it to Japan via FedEx. Shibata’s name on the marriage certificate was written as Riko Cage, as per Clark County Clerk’s Office record.
The couple welcomed their first child, August Francesca, on September 7, 2022. This is Cage’s third child, as he had two older children from his previous marriages.
Riko Shibata Shows Support For Husband Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata waited until they were married before making their first red carpet walk in July 2021 at the premiere of the actor’s movie Pig. Kyoto-born Shibata also visited every site that held importance to her husband.
Aside from taking a trip to Cage’s pyramid tomb memorial, Shibata also made sure to see his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In March 2023, she accompanied her husband to the New York City premiere of his movie Renfield.
Cage was previously married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001, to Lisa Marie Presley from 2002 to 2004, to Alice Kim from 2004 to 2016, and to Erika Kookie in March 2019, which lasted for four days.
After four failed marriages, The Lord of War star believes that Shibata will be his last, promising he won’t make the same mistakes from the past and will dedicate his life to honoring their everlasting vows.
