Ben Affleck enjoys quite incredible stardom in the industry after his successes as an actor and filmmaker. The Batman v Superman actor has won two Academy Awards besides having a career consisting of several blockbuster movies. Along with the Oscars, Affleck also boasts of various other reputed awards. But according to George Clooney, the Good Will Hunting actor deserves more in his achievement list.
George Clooney has been associated with Ben Affleck for a long time since he produced the 2012 hit, Argo starring and being directed by the latter. Both of the stars reunited with their 2021 coming-of-age flick titled The Tender Bar. As Clooney decided to return to the director’s chair after The Midnight Sky, Affleck was set to cast alongside Tye Sheridan and Christopher Lloyd.
Why does Ben Affleck deserve another Oscar?
Ben Affleck gained very early stardom along with his best friend Matt Damon when both of them won the Oscar for writing the best screenplay in Good Will Hunting. Later on, the 50-year-old also made Argo for which he won an Oscar for Best Picture.
As the star recently appeared in the George Clooney directorial, The Tender Bar, Clooney stated that the Armageddon actor deserves some more Oscars on his cabinet. According to the Ocean’s Eleven fame, Ben Affleck’s work in the 2021 movie convinced him that the actor is at the top of his game.
“You know, Ben’s been through the ringer. He’s been as high as you could get. He stood on the stage and won a couple of Oscars. He knows what it’s like to be at the top of the game, and he also has had some rough patches.”
The Batman & Robin actor added that despite a few flops, Ben Affleck has always fought like a fighter and has gained worldwide appreciation. He thinks that if the star maintains this then it will be a deserving win for him at the Oscars.
“Some of them, as he has said many times, self-inflicted, but he’s a fighter, and he’s been out there, and he showed up on this one in such a big way and in such a gracious way, and he’s been doing it for a bit, and it’s fun to see the reactions towards him, and it’d be lovely if the same sort of attention was carried on [to the Oscars]. I think he would deserve it.”
Although The Tender Bar’s performance couldn’t bring in any Academy Awards for Jennifer Lopez’s beloved, still Affleck was nominated for Golden Globe and SAG Awards. Interestingly, Clooney didn’t want Affleck to play Batman in the DCEU even after having so much respect for him.
Why did George Clooney want Ben Affleck to deny the Batman role?
Ben Affleck gained wide attention when he was picked up for the role of Gotham’s Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But George Clooney always advised the actor not to go for the role of Batman.
It must be noted that George Clooney has also helmed the role of the Dark Knight in the 1997 Batman & Robin which certainly he doesn’t want to remember. The movie was a critical and commercial disaster. During an interview after the release of Argo, Clooney was very open to admitting that he advised the Gone Girl star to not go for the role.
It was evident from the Three Kings star’s comments that the 1997 movie has been a nightmare fuel for him for years and he didn’t want another fellow star to go through it. Although Affleck’s Batman career hasn’t been similar to George Clooney’s, it hasn’t been very good either. All the drama related to DCEU and its problematic run led to the actor reportedly helming the role for one last time in The Flash which will release on the 16th of this month.
