“I think he would be a little turned off”: Andrew Garfield Claimed His Spider-Man Won’t Worship Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man Like Tom Holland Does

Andrew Garfield Claimed His Spider-Man Won't Worship Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man Like Tom Holland Does

Among the many actors who have played Spider-Man on the big screen so far, Andrew Garfield has been widely hailed as the best one yet. His Amazing Spider-Man franchise was poignant, moving, and relatable as well as equipped with some of the finest CGI and carefully curated action sequences.

Despite the massive fan following, Sony decided to discontinue it. The discontinuation of the franchise led to Tom Holland’s much-celebrated Spider-Man franchise and an emotional Peter Parker-Tony Stark relationship that continues to inspire fan lore and fiction. However, one can’t help but wonder how it would have been had Garfield continued to be Spider-Man and the actor himself has some words to say.

Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man/Peter Parker has a great relationship with Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Despite his playboy and ignorant billionaire image, Stark emerged as a father figure for Parker, who never had a male influence growing up. Since then their relationship evolved into a deep unspoken bond, leading to fans speculate that Stark’s involvement in Avengers: Endgame was solely to bring Parker back.

However, if Holland hadn’t been Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield had continued playing, one wonders how his relationship with the billionaire Avenger would have been. The same question was asked when Garfield sat down to answer fan questions on the internet with GQ.

“I definitely think Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man would be pretty suspect of MCU Iron Man. I think he would be a little turned off by the excess, the billionaire, trillionaire status of Iron Man. I think it would rub my version of Spider-Man the wrong way. But maybe there could be some influence there. Maybe my Peter Parker could wake Tony Stark up to his own egoic drives a little bit.”

To some degree, Garfield’s answer seems appropriate since his Peter Parker wouldn’t have trusted Stark as much as Holland’s did. Furthermore, their relationship would rather have been more of ‘co-workers’ rather than the father-son relationship present between Holland and Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man.

The post-covid era in the film industry has largely been marked by remakes and bringing back old casts and characters. While Andrew Garfield did come back as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home, fans can’t help but wonder if he could finally get his chance to return in a stand-alone film or not.

Although he has consistently denied such rumors, many speculate there could be a possibility for previously managed to hide his Far From Home appearance for as long as he did. Furthermore, there is also a chance he could appear as his version of the famous web-slinger in Tom Hardy starrer Venom 3. There is also a possibility he could appear in the next Avengers movies for his latest appearance as Spider-Man helped sort a lot of complexities and gave him a chance to redeem his character.

While nothing has been confirmed, fans are certainly keeping their eyes and ears open for even a slight hint.

The Spider-Man franchise can be streamed on Disney+.
