The Mission: Impossible franchise gained a cult following mainly due to its charismatic superstar Tom Cruise headlining the films and regaling audiences with his death-defying stunts. In 2018, the film series took a huge step by casting Man of Steel star Henry Cavill who joined Cruise in an epic partnership in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. With both stars engaged in thrilling action sequences, fandoms from both sides had their fill.
The film though became a topic of discussion due to a few discrepancies that keen-eyed fans noticed with regard to Henry Cavill’s sudden growth of facial hair during an action sequence. Cavill’s co-star Tom Cruise spoke about this issue during an interview when asked about the inconsistency.
Tom Cruise Could Not Solve The Mystery Of Henry Cavill’s Beard
In Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Ethan Hunt played by Tom Cruise joins forces with August Walker played by Henry Cavill to track down missing nuclear arms before catastrophe strikes. The film saw the two dynamic stars matching each other toe to toe in the thrilling action sequences. But one memorable fight scene in a bathroom involving Cruise and Cavill was found to have some inconsistencies. Hawk-eyed viewers noted that the Justice League star’s beard suddenly increased in volume when cutting from one shot to another as he landed his punches. Years later, when Tom Cruise was asked to explain the mystery, the star confessed that he too was completely in the dark.
“It is, I’m telling you, we looked at that over and over in rushes. The editing room were going, ‘How did you do that, Henry? But, you had to play it back, and you could play it back in slow motion and I still can’t figure it out. It is the wildest thing.”
The Cocktail star went on to joke light-heartedly that he was envious of Henry Cavill’s thick beard and his ability to grow it at will. While some people believed that it had to do with the angle of light, the scene still remains an enigma today.
Brad Pitt Once Took A Dig At “Savior” Tom Cruise
Top Gun: Maverick gave Tom Cruise one of his biggest hits of all time. The film which raked in over 1.4 billion dollars worldwide was not just successful as a commercial film but also received widespread appreciation from critics. While the efforts paid off with a well-deserved Golden Globe nomination for Best Film, Tom Cruise was denied a nod in the Best Actor category. This omission was further magnified by Cruise’s rival Brad Pitt’s nomination in the same category for Babylon, despite the movie hardly making a mark after its release. According to inside sources, Tom Cruise was allegedly upset at the turn of events.
“Tom expected to walk away with the award for best actor, so you can imagine his reaction when he wasn’t even on the list — he totally blew a fuse! This was the first time in years that Tom was so sure he had a slam-dunk win he was fine-tuning his acceptance speech”.
To add salt to the wound, Brad Pitt is reported to have aggravated Cruise’s misery further by gloating over his Best Actor nomination as an effort to rise above the Mission: Impossible star’s domination over the industry, especially after Cruise has been christened as the savior of Hollywood. This jibe is even more significant since Pitt is already a Golden Globe and Oscar winner for Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
