Edward Norton is a high-profile Hollywood celebrity, but he prefers to keep his relationships secret. He has notably dated actress Salma Hayek and singer Courtney Love. It seems like the Fight Club actor is a great boyfriend because even after the breakups, he had a great relationship with both of his notable exes.
In fact, Love especially once felt like letting go of Norton was a big mistake on her part. As such, she desperately wanted him back. But he was dating Salma Hayek at that time. This gave rise to catty and borderline racist remarks from Love to Hayek out of jealousy.
Courtney Love Wanted Edward Norton Back After Break Up
Courtney Love was the one who ended her relationship with Edward Norton. The two met during 1996’s The People vs. Larry Flynt and had an on-and-off romance till 1999. But the singer, who was once married to Kurt Cobain, regretted the breakup and wanted him back. In a 2006 interview with Metro, Love stated that she shouldn’t have left him for a man who stole money from her.
She stated:
“I’m working on my man-karma right now. I’ve either had the very good guys or the very bad. I should have married Edward. I left him for a bad man who stole all my money. I left Ed Norton, who was good and wonderful, for an average bad man who was in A+R. It’s upsetting.”
But why did Courtney Love dump Norton? During an interview with Variety Fair, the rock band singer revealed that it was because she wanted to star in a film. She said, “I dumped him for a movie role. If that isn’t shallow, I don’t know what is.” Yet, when Norton entered a relationship with Salma Hayek she took cheap shots at the Desperado actress.
Courtney Love Targeted Salma Hayek For Dating Her Ex
During an interview with the National Enquirer, Courtney Love made an eyebrow-raising statement about Salma Hayek. She stated that Hayek and Edward Norton wouldn’t last long because her ex would “barely understand half of what she’s saying.” Hayek is a Mexican as well as an American actress. As such, Love’s remarks came off as quite racist and she was forced to apologize. For the apology Love stated:
“[Edward] has never made any negative comments about Miss Hayek. I especially apologise to Miss Hayek, who is nothing if not brilliant… with a firm grip and style with the English language.”
However, even her ex Edward Norton, who she claimed to love a lot, wasn’t spared. The Incredible Hulk actor came under fire for stealing from her. She wrote in a long Twitter rant that Norton had stolen $300,000 from her. She said:
“It’s your (Norton) upbringing, it had to be a man no matter how many documents I have shown you you don’t believe well you will now… You’re one of my best friends I have or will ever have the last thing your fund needs is a massive scandal.”
However, she, later on, apologized to him in a confusing way that has now become Love’s trademark. She said, “I have the greatest respect for Edward. He could be the President of the United States. I could be his drug czar.” However, Courtney Love and Edward Norton have put behind all the yesteryear drama and moved on with their individual lives.
