Recalling  Brad Pitt‘s proposal, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that the Fight Club actor proposed to her on a balcony of the house they rented in Argentina. Paltrow, who was around 24 back then, recalled, “I wish I remembered exactly what he said, but he proposed, I was thrilled.”

The actress, of course, said yes. But soon she realized that she wasn’t ready to walk down the aisle. Paltrow explained:

“I had a lot of development to do, looking back in hindsight. In a lot of ways, I didn’t really fully start to come into myself until I was 40 years old. And I had such a pleasing issue.

I didn’t really even understand how to listen to my instincts and act from that place for what was right for me. I was always trying to adjudicate what was right for everyone else.

When I look back I really was a kid, really more than most 22, 24 years old I meet now. I really had not explored who I was, what was important to me, and what my boundaries were.”

Paltrow, who could have been Pitt’s lawfully wedded wife, was left heartbroken after Hollywood’s “It” couple called it quits in 1997. The Ocean’s Eleven star went on to marry Jennifer Aniston, only to divorce her for Angelina Jolie, ending up in a messy legal battle, which makes one wonder if things would have been any different with Paltrow.

Gwyneth Paltrow Chose Mind Over Her Heart!

Gwyneth Paltrow, who is now married to Glee producer Brad Falchuk, has a rich dating history with A-listers like Ben Affleck and her ex-husband, Chris Martin. But, Brad Pitt always held a special place in her heart. The actress has remained on amicable terms with Pitt to date, openly sharing his “bedroom skills” with fans.

During her breakup with Pitt, Paltrow revealed that the step felt right at the time, and she has no regret about giving up their almost-perfect love story. During the podcast, the Shallow Hal actress opened up about the numerous reason she had to end the relationship. She said:

“There were a number of things that had happened, he was nine years older than me so he was far more … he knew what he wanted, he was ready to do it and I was kind of all over the place.

It was really one of those difficult things, where I felt like, ‘Oh my God, not only am I not ready, I’m not living up to the standards again.’ It was a familiar refrain I felt about myself.”

One thing Paltrow knows to date is that Brad Pitt is a “wonderful, great” guy even though Jolie feels otherwise. The actress did get engaged to Pitt in 1996 despite choosing her mind over her heart in the end. Pitt, who shared a close relationship with her father, also confessed to loving her even 25 years after their breakup. This may make Chris Martin even more jealous as all he got in the end were “brotherly” references.
