Every tennis player hopes to reach the top of the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, but doing so is a very difficult endeavor. Especially if other legends already stand head-and-shoulders above the rest. However, Novak Djokovic is able to gain this hard-earned recognition at a time when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal seemed to have taken all the attention.
At Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic recently won (over Jordan Thompson) at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, despite having to endure a difficult tie-break for the second straight match.
For those who do not know, Djokovic is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players in history as well as possibly the greatest sportsman to ever live. It would not surprise us if a movie about him would ever be made, showing his arduous ascent to fame.
Well, which Hollywood A-list star would be perfect to depict him on screen? Tom Cruise?
Even so, will he consider the Top Gun: Maverick actor playing him in his biopic movie if it ever is made?
Novak Djokovic Didn’t Want Tom Cruise to Play Him in a Biopic?
Will Novak Djokovic be pleased if Tom Cruise would play his character on-screen?
During a press conference for the 2019 Roland Garros, the 36-year-old Serbian professional tennis player was questioned about this after his convincing victory over Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
“If a film is made about your life, would you be happy for Tom Cruise to play you? Are there any other actors that you admire? Would you ever consider an acting career in the future, or would that be Mission Impossible for you?”
Djokovic responded with a smile:
“Wow, amazing. No, I probably wouldn’t choose, if I had a choice, I wouldn’t choose Tom, even though of course I respect him.”
He further went on to say that he would not like to see himself pursuing an acting career:
“I don’t consider acting career, but we can talk. If you have some offers, later on, you can always recommend.”

Which Actor Did Novak Djokovic Admire?
Further, during the interview at the same conference, Novak Djokovic identified the actors who inspire him. He said:
“Actors, that I admire? Well, Leonardo DiCaprio, DeNiro, Gerard Butler on the men’s side. And I like Halle Barry, Sharon Stone, and Jessica Alba. I do.”
This suggests that he does not desire Tom Cruise to play him in his biopic, even though he has immense respect for the actor. On the other hand, it seems the Mission Impossible star is fond of Djokovic. The 61-year-old action star went to the Wimbledon Men’s Singles final in 2022 to see the 36-year-old Serbian tennis player defeat Nick Kyrgios.
In a thrilling match on Centre Court, Djokovic defeated Kyrgios to win his seventh Wimbledon title and fourth in a row.
Meanwhile, Cruise is ready to dominate the box office with his upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One following the worldwide success of Top Gun: Maverick.
Christopher McQuarrie’s film is slated for release on July 12.
