Kevin Costner has brilliantly portrayed the character of John Dutton in the hugely popular television series Yellowstone, which follows the Dutton family’s personal conflicts and their fight against encroachers.
However, the series, which is co-created by Taylor Sheridan, is coming to an abrupt end after five seasons. It has been confirmed Season 5 Part Two of the show will be the final take on Dutton’s life and it’s scheduled to premiere in November.
Multiple reports have suggested there’s a scheduling dispute between Costner and Sheridan. Further, the show surprisingly came up during the 68-year-old’s court hearing in his divorce case.
What Kevin Costner Said About Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone at Divorce Hearing
In May, Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from Kevin Costner after 18 years of marriage. In that regard, he appeared at a Santa Barbara court hearing on Friday, wherein his comments during his testimony suggested things were very rough behind the scenes of Yellowstone.
It’s understood he said he will “probably go to court” over his departure from the show, which is based on a ranching family in Montana. When asked if he was offered to do another season, the Oscar-winning actor said it was “complicated”.
Costner further suggested there were creative differences during talks with Taylor Sheridan – who’s also one of the writers on the show – and producers. “I tried to break the logjam. They walked away,” he said.
A separate report from Deadline says the end of Yellowstone will be followed up by a sequel series, and The Wolf of Wall Street star Matthew McConaughey had been in talks for the same.
If that happens, it’ll certainly be interesting to see what McConaughey would bring to the famous ranch. Even more interesting would be to see what Costner would say about Sheridan should he decide to raise the topic of his departure from Yellowstone in the future – either in the court or elsewhere.
What Jeremy Renner Said About Taylor Sheridan After Working With Him in Wind River
There are very few concrete reports available regarding what went down (or is still going on?) between Costner and Sheridan behind the scenes. However, we do know that the talented filmmaker mostly shares a very good relationship with his stars.
Comments from Jeremy Renner, who worked with him in Wind River in 2017, certainly attest to the same.
Not only did the Hawkeye star praise the filmmaker’s style of working, but went as far as vowing: “The next job I do, outside of the Avengers, that I’m doing now, will be with him. Otherwise, I probably won’t be on the screen.”
Elizabeth Olsen also starred in the crime thriller which made $45 million at the box office. She joined Renner in praising Sheridan, claiming he’s one of the most direct communicators she knows.
