While the initial hype for the show was quite low, it has started to slowly gain traction. The show, which is a part of Marvel’s Phase 5, is the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the show, Nick Fury, along with his allies, attempts to stop a Skrull invasion.

“They put me in a Lada, which is like a very old Russian car. And I got in, and I was like, ‘Hey, what’s with the six [shift knobs] up in here? Which one am I using? Why does it have 10 pedals? It’s [like] a tractor… I know how to drive. I know how to drive a stick. [But there wasn’t] enough time.”

Lada, originally known as AvtoVAZ, was established in 1966 as a collaboration between the Soviet Union and the Italian automaker Fiat. Given what Clarke described, Lada’s old cars were indeed very difficult to understand.

Clarke further explained that she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and almost ran over actor Samuel L. Jackson,

“They’re saying, ‘We’ve gotta go. We’re shooting. Come on, honey. Just go. We’re gonna go.’ We get up to it. The camera is right there. Sam is right there. And I pressed the wrong thing; I pressed the accelerator rather than the brake.”

Fortunately, a tragedy was averted because she found the brake in time. The first episode of the series was released on June 21st on Disney+.

The actress then revealed that the close call made her cry on the set while Samuel L. Jackson was “very gentlemanly and lovely and nice.” Clarke said,

“Then I cried a little bit and someone else drove it for me.”

In the show, Clarke plays a Skrull named G’iah, however, this wasn’t the first time the character was introduced in the MCU. In 2019’s Captain Marvel, there is a scene where viewers see Talos with his wife and daughter. The daughter is G’iah.

The next episode of Secret Invasion will air on Disney+ on July 12.
