Released in 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home starring Tom Holland became a smash hit movie in the Box Office earning $ 1.9 billion worldwide. The film was widely loved by the audience, and the third installment also featured Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield from the previous franchises of Spider-Man. The presence of the two actors brought a sense of nostalgia and excitement to the audience.
The three actors showed a close bond on the big screen, but ever since they were featured in the movie, MCU fans are wondering if the actors are close to each other in real life. And to the surprise of the fans, Andrew Garfield is closer to Tobey Maguire than Tom Holland. And the Uncharted actor expressed his regrets when he took succeeded as the new Spider-Man.
Tom Holland Regrets Not Contacting Andrew Garfield after becoming Spider-Man
During the exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Uncharted actor said that one of his regrets is for not reaching out to Andrew Garfield, his predecessor when he took over the role of the new Spider-Man. The Impossible actor stated that he would be devasted if he were told that he “was done, and this other kid was taking over.” And looking back he would be more than happy to make things right.
“Something I can look back on now with a little bit of clarity and regret is that I never called [Garfield] when I took over as Spider-Man. Had someone said to me after my second movie that I was done, and this other kid was taking over, I would’ve been heartbroken. So looking back, I wish I had the chance to make amends with him, but this film was our opportunity.”
Tom Holland continued that he was happy to work with the Hacksaw Ridge actor in the third installment where he could make peace with the character.
“It was not only an opportunity for him to make peace with the character and the studio, but it was also an opportunity for me and him to have this moment where we realize we could share this thing. The look on his face when he saves Zendaya [MJ] is totally genuine, and I’m really proud of him.”
It was reported that Tom Holland created a WhatsApp group chat where Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and he used to chat during the production of the third film. However, it is unsure if the actors are active in that group.
Andrew Garfield Idolises Tobey Maguire
During an interview with Vanity Fair, The Amazing Spider-Man actor acknowledged his adulation for Tobey Maguire. Garfield stated that he was nervous to work alongside his idol because growing up he has watched him in Sam Raini’s Spider-Man, and he made his sole objective to impress the Pawn Sacrifice actor while playing the same role as his idol.
“I was just obsessed with what he was doing. I want him to be my older brother/mentor figure and to tell me I’m doing a good job. I want to compete with him. I want to better him. I want to rib him, have fun with him.”
The actor continued that the key reason, he agreed to take on the role was because he would be sharing the screen with the man whom he idolized growing up.
“I was just waiting to see if Tobey was gonna do it, and if Tobey was gonna do it then I was like, ‘Well I have no choice. I follow Tobey to the ends of the earth. I’m a lemming for Tobey. But that was sincerely a big part of it when I was approached about it.”
It is no surprise that Andrew Garfield is in awe of Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man because the actor brought depth to the character while bringing originality to the character. During his time as Spider-Man, the actor had numerous memorable scenes and faced off against some memorable villains like Dr. Octopus, Green Goblin, and Venom.
