Tom Hiddleston is presently a household name and is familiar to almost every superhero lover. His portrayal of Loki garnered worldwide fame and made him one of the biggest names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But initially, Hiddleston had other plans as he wanted to enter the MCU as Thor but not Loki.
It was during an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when we came to know that Tom Hiddleston originally auditioned for the role of the God of Thunder. It also reminded the fans of the case of Cillian Murphy who auditioned for the role of Batman but was cast in the Christopher Nolan trilogy as the antagonist Scarecrow.
How did Tom Hiddleston get the role of Loki?
The casting process of Thor was not a smooth one. Initially, Chris Hemsworth who is presently known to the entire world for his portrayal of the Asgardian God of Thunder was refused for the role. It was at that time when Tom Hiddleston also auditioned for the role. It was revealed in an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where the host showed the undisclosed audition tape.
The Avengers: Endgame star elaborated on the whole audition process where he revealed that the makers were searching for a less well-established actor for the titular role.
“Basically, at the time, they were looking for less well-established actors so that the audience didn’t have an association. They just wanted people to see these new characters, these new actors. And the agreement was if you’re over six-foot and you’ve got blond hair you can come and have a pop at it. I never auditioned for Loki. I only ever auditioned for Thor.”
Tom Hiddleston also joked after watching the clip that the studio took the right decision to cast Chris Hemsworth.
But on the other side, this audience also found a similarity between this incident and the case of Cillian Murphy who is famous for his role of Scarecrow in The Dark Knight Trilogy. Murphy originally auditioned for the role of the caped crusader without any expectations. But surprisingly, Nolan took him for the role of Scarecrow which elevated his stardom hugely.
Loki is presently one of the most important Marvel characters. While we remember many of his iconic moments in the entirety of The Infinity Saga, he is also one of the primary elements of The Multiverse Saga. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki series proved to be an important event in the course of the MCU and also promises to be a more important Multiverse project in the next season.
When can we expect Loki season 2?
Among all the Disney+ MCU shows, Loki was one of the best projects which garnered appreciation from both critics and audiences. It not only introduced us to TVA but also new concepts of Multiverse, Variants, and most importantly Kang the Conqueror which proved to be far more impactful for the present MCU than expected.
But unfortunately, the upcoming season had to face delays due to several issues. Season 2 is expected to pick up from the moment the former season ended with Sylvie killing Jonathan Majors’ Kang variant He Who Remains thereby creating havoc in the multiverse. While this season was expected to show more variants of Kang the Conqueror, Jonathan Majors’ legal drama is presenting a big question mark on his future in the MCU.

Marvel is expected to take action on it as soon as the legal case progresses. Loki Season 2’s sizzle reel shown at the D23 Expo also revealed that the characters are glitching, probably due to the Multiversal mishap. With the reports of more TVA secrets going to be unveiled along with many new cast members to join, the upcoming Tom Hiddleston series promises to be a very exciting adventure.
Loki Season 2 will start streaming on Disney+ on October 6, 2023, and all the other MCU projects can also be streamed on Disney+.
