The actor was married to F.R.I.E.N.D.S star Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005. Their marriage, as well as subsequent divorce, was highly publicized, with much speculation regarding Pitt’s loyalty as he was rumored to be having an affair with Angelina Jolie. However, trouble seemed to be brewing much earlier as Aniston had refused to call him the ‘love of her life’ even while being married to him.

Before the pair dated and married, Brad Pitt was actually engaged twice. The first time was with his Cutting Class co-star Jill Schoelen. The pair were quite serious, and it came as a shock to his fans when they called off their engagement in 1989. Pitt mentioned that he was heartbroken when it happened and was severely disappointed when he traveled all the way to Hungary to see her only for her to break it off with him.

After a few more relationships, Brad Pitt started dating his Seven co-star Gwyneth Paltrow and the couple got engaged after three years. However, it was soon called off, but they remained great friends. Pitt met Jennifer Aniston in 1998 and were dating until 2000 when they got married.

Their dating life was highly publicized and so was their marriage. The couple separated after five years in 2005, citing irreconcilable differences. Pitt was seen with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie throughout the divorce proceedings, leading the media to speculate that the pair got together during Pitt’s marriage. However, they clarified that no infidelity was involved.

Pitt and Jolie confirmed their relationship in 2006 after she got pregnant with his child. The couple share six children together. They got married in a private ceremony in 2014. However, two years later, Jolie filed for divorce after he was accused of abuse. They were granted a divorce in 2019.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston seemed to have a troubled marriage even before the infidelity accusations against Pitt. Their highly publicized courtship and marriage were reported to be adding to the troubles between the couple. The fact that Pitt had claimed that he fell in love with Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith added to the speculations that he was unfaithful to Aniston.

While tabloids at the time kept speculating about the relationship, a statement by Jennifer Aniston during a 2003 interview with W magazine seemed to be hinting at trouble much earlier. During the interview, she was asked if her husband Pitt was the love of her life, to which she gave a very non-committal answer. She said,

“Is he the love of my life? I think you’re always sort of wondering, ‘Are you the love of my life?’ I mean, I don’t know, I’ve never been someone who says, ‘He’s the love of my life.’ He’s certainly a big love in my life.”

While this does not reveal anything about the state of their relationship, the couple divorced two years later. Pitt spoke about the events in an interview with W magazine in 2009. Speaking about his current relationship with Aniston, he said,

“We still check in with each other. She was a big part of my life, and me hers. I don’t see how there cannot be [that]. That’s life, man. That’s life.”

The divorce reportedly devastated Jennifer Aniston but has since defended Pitt by saying that his public appearances with Jolie during the divorce proceedings were not intentional. The pair seems to be on good terms now.
