Known for their enchanting and spell-binding chemistry, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock shared the screen on two occasions—in the 1994 film Speed and 2006’s The Lake House. What the pair have also shared is an intriguing history together. Beyond harboring a mutual sense of respect and admiration, the talents have also admitted to having a crush on one another in the past.
The on-screen duo’s cinematic reunion is something that many people are looking forward to with a sincere sense of fervor. What many fans were shocked to know, however, is that a potential reunion between the two could have been possible a year ago. Alas, the John Wick alum was preoccupied with having to work in the fourth film of his acclaimed franchise. The Canadian actor almost had a part to play in the 2022 Sandra Bullock-starrer, The Lost City.
Keanu Reeves Was Considered For A Role In The Lost City (2022)
A Nee brothers endeavor, The Lost City is an action-comedy that was released in 2022 and the cast members consist of some of the most eminent personalities in Hollywood, such as Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt, among many others.
The worldwide box-office reception for the movie was a whopping $192.9 million. On IMDb, The Lost City garnered a rating of 6.1/10. Critics’ reactions were split, some sang praises while most claimed that the film was “rough around the edges.”
The movie saw Brad Pitt in the role of Jack Trainer. Embodied with out-and-out exuberance and charm, the screen time that the Hollywood superstar enjoyed in the film left the audiences with many memorable and hilarious scenes to hold on to for a long time. What you’d be surprised to know, however, is that this particular role was nearly portrayed by The Matrix alum, Keanu Reeves.
If not for his strenuous schedule, the actor may have made it, and a reunion between Bullock and Reeves would have been a reality.
Adam And Aaron Nee Shed Some Light On The Matter
In an interview with Screen Rant, the directors of the film, Adam Nee and Aaron Lee were the first to bring light to this revelation. The two admitted that Brad Pitt was their first choice for the cameo. However, with how swarmed up the actor usually is, they never expected him to partake in the film. Therefore, the Nee brothers also considered Keanu Reeves for The Lost City. Alas, the latter, too, was preoccupied with having to film for John Wick.
However, thanks to Sandra Bullock’s cameo in Bullet Train, the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood actor was able to make time for the Nee brothers’ cinematic initiative.
Adam Nee stated:
“I think we thought it was gonna be Keanu Reeves initially, but he was tied up with John Wick and that’s where we were like, ‘Brad was always our first choice,’ but we didn’t think it was gonna happen. Then [Sandra Bullock] did Bullet Train and it came together. And I love Keanu, he would’ve been fun too.”
Will Sandra Bullock And Keanu Reeves Reunite In The Future?
“I think about how sweet Keanu Reeves was and how handsome he was. It was hard for me to really be serious. He would look at me and I’d be like [giggling].”
Months later, in 2019, Keanu Reeves graced the show himself. The talk-show host let him in on Bullock’s sentiments towards the actor. Upon getting to know that his Speed co-star had a crush on him, the John Wick star stated the following, “She obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her, either.” Ellen DeGeneres remarked that it was strange how despite having feelings for each other, the two never ended up getting together romantically. Reeves, maintaining his uber-professional demeanor, responded, “We were working.”
