James Gunn and Peter Safran have moved things around after they joined as co-Heads of the DC universe. They have made numerous changes in the franchise to realize their ten-year plan. These changes include canceling or restructuring some films and storylines like Wonder Woman 2. The recasting of popular actors like Henry Cavill in favor of a young actor.
The decision shook DC and Cavill fans alike, it also lead to a surge of rumors. One of these rumors was about Zachary Levi being replaced as Shazam in the sequel Fury of the Gods.
Shazam! star took to Twitter to quell the rumors
In December 2022 the Shazam star took to Twitter to address the recasting rumors. He Tweeted,
Zachary Levi has often stood up for Gunn and Safran, asking fans to keep faith in their vision and change of direction. Initially, there was an outrage on the internet as fans asked the co-heads to resign. Today things are looking better as fans must have realized that DC needed some streamlining.
As Henry Cavill was let go Gunn and Safran were being brutally slammed on the internet. Levi came to their rescue asking fans to have patience. He wrote on Instagram,
“You have no idea the reasonings behind any of the decisions that are going on. The amount of conjecture and rumor mill and drama and nonsense that keeps getting spun around out there on Instagram and Twitter is laughable. It is unbelievably laughable,”
Zachary Levi adds,
“So I would just say be patient and give them some space and some time to try and really make something special. And I think something that DC deserves to have and something that [Zack] Snyder tried to do and it just didn’t ultimately materialize, guys.”
There is no doubt that Levi is a team player and holds Gunn and Safran in high regard. Both Gunn and Levi have each other’s back as Gunn addressed the Tweet and clarified that actors and producers are entitled to their own opinions.
