Josh Brolin is an actor who has done some brilliant roles both in franchises and outside of them. His performance never fails the audience and his charisma as well as dedication has helped him in becoming a widely respected actor. His love for his roles is one that brings about a passion, allowing him the enthusiasm to live through any difficulty he may face.
Whether it is a strict diet, making him quit some of his most beloved foods, or an injury he has to endure for the sake of the film; the actor is unstoppable. Needless to say, things have gotten a little too far because of his fear of being replaced, almost making his doctor suffer because of him.
Josh Brolin Made His Doctor Lie
Josh Brolin was more than eager to perform when he got an opportunity to star in No Country for Old Men. The film came with a chance he had been desperately waiting to get, a chance to work with two wonderful directors, Joel, and Ethan Coen. This enthusiasm, however, almost cost his doctor a lot.
“I lied to the Coens and told them it was only a hairline fracture,” Brolin stated. “I coached my doctor on what to say to the Coens, which could have gotten his license taken away.”
Even before the shooting of the movie began, Brolin suffered from a terrible injury, he had broken his collarbone because of a motorcycle accident and did not want to lose the role because of it. So he lied to the directors and told them that it was simply a hairline fracture and he could act despite the injury. Brolin even instructed his doctor on what to say and what not to say to make sure that his role was not compromised and the Avengers: Endgame actor was not replaced by another.
The Coens Worked The Injury Within The Film
Although Josh Brolin was able to work with his lie for some time, it did not last for long. He had to confess to Joel and Ethan Coen, revealing his injury because they started to notice that his performance wasn’t up to the mark. When they got to know what had actually transpired, Brolin expected to be replaced. However, that did not happen.
“I remember Ethan said to me… ‘what shoulder is it?’ I said ‘it’s my right shoulder.’ He said, ‘Moss gets shot in the right shoulder. We’ll be fine.’ … We never had to change anything in the movie.”
The directors instead worked on the injury within the movie. They added to his character, claiming that the difficulties Brolin was facing were a character trait because he got shot in his right shoulder. It was smooth and managed to maintain a great flow, excluding any possibility of the actor missing out on the opportunity he had been waiting for.
