“I knew he’d bring something unique”: Before $4.5 Billion Franchise Kicked Johnny Depp Out, His Co-Star Called Him His “Personal Hero”

There is no doubt that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise made actor Johnny Depp a household name. His portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow was loved by fans all over the world. However, the actor was removed from the franchise after Amber Heard’s abuse allegations surfaced.

Johnny Depp met Orlando Bloom while filming the movie series, as they played Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner, respectively. Their on-screen chemistry can also be seen in real life as the two actors have remained close friends over the years. In his past interviews, Bloom has always praised Depp for the magic he brings to the big screen.

Orlando Bloom said Johnny Depp is his “hero“

In 2003, actor Orlando Bloom told BBC that Johnny Depp is his hero, adding that he had a lot of fun with him while filming The Curse of the Black Pearl, their first movie together,

“It was the most fun I’ve ever had. I had the chance to work with one of my heroes, Johnny Depp, and to see how he works, which was really inspiring for me at this stage in my career.”

They have worked together in four Pirates of the Caribbean movies, The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).

Orlando Bloom says Johnny Depp always “brings something unique“

Further in the interview, Orlando Bloom talked about the energy that Johnny Depp brought to the sets of the movie. The actor said,

“I knew he’d bring something unique to it the way he always does with his roles. I just didn’t know what it would be when I saw it, it was fantastic.”

At the time, Orlando Bloom was a fresh actor so working with a seasoned artist like Depp was a big deal for him.

Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise

Depp played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in five Pirates of the Caribbean movies. His performance was loved by fans of the franchise. He even got a Best Actor nomination at the 2004 Academy Awards for his iconic performance in the first movie. That movie made him a huge star as he won a Screen Actors Guild Award and an MTV Movie Award for Best Performance. In 2008 and 2011, he won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male Action Star for his work in the franchise.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the highest-grossing film series of all time, with a worldwide box office gross of over $4.5 billion.
