With The Flash set to erase the previous DCEU and provide a clean slate for James Gunn to implement his roadmap for the new DCU, the continuation of Snyderverse seems unlikely. But even though the future of Zack Snyder’s vision for DC isn’t the brightest, Henry Cavill once expressed his support regarding the Snyder Cut and explained why it was important.

Henry Cavill expressed that Zack Snyder’s vision deserved to be completed

Although Henry Cavill might not be the biggest fan of the grim and dark approach toward the generally hopeful Superman, he did comprise immense respect for Zack Snyder’s vision. And considering that the director wasn’t able to complete his version of Justice League back in 2017 due to a family tragedy, Cavill was happy that the director was finally getting the chance to tell his story. Cavill expressed his excitement for Zack Snyder’s Justice League by stating,

“I’m just really excited to see his vision realized. He got to be the train. I think it’s only fair that train gets to reach its station which he was aiming for… Whether you agree with it or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s a storyteller’s, it’s a filmmaker’s right to have that vision realized. I’m excited to see it… Especially, he’s got the advantage of hindsight now. It’s going to be even better. I just want to see a good movie.”

But despite his love and respect for Snyder’s iteration of the character, Cavill once expressed that he always wanted to play a more hopeful version of Clark Kent.

Henry Cavill wanted to play a more comic-accurate version of Superman

Henry Cavill has always been pretty vocal about respecting the source material and staying true to it, which reportedly resulted in the actor’s exclusion from Netflix’s The Witcher. However, in the case of Superman, the actor didn’t back away from respecting Snyder’ more dark and grim approach towards Superman, who is generally considered the symbol of hope.

But Cavill did go on to express that he would have loved to play a more comic-accurate version of the character, who is more confident and faithful to the source material. He said,

“I would love to have the opportunity to play the Superman that we all know and love from the comics, as a continuation of his development and we see the hero. That would be really, really exciting for me because there is an opportunity to tell a lot of interesting story there.”

But even before the actor was allowed to live his dream in a follow-up to Man of Steel after returning to the role of Superman in Black Adam, he was eventually axed from the iconic role. Although many Zack Snyder fans are still hoping for the continuation of the Snyderverse, following the current landscape of the DC universe, it seems very unlikely.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max.
