Hollywood star Sean Connery is considered a movie legend for his great work in Hollywood. Popular for starring as the British secret agent in the James Bond series, he has had an incredible acting career with multiple hits under his name. However, there is a side of almost every celebrity that is not celebrated by many of their fans. And such was the case regarding Connery’s thoughts about hitting or slapping a woman.
It all started with a 1965 Playboy interview. During his interview, he said that he does not believe that there is anything wrong with hitting a woman. And the resurfaced Playboy interview and his following comments justifying his statements have received negative attention from netizens.

Sean Connery’s Controversial Comment About Slapping Women
Sean Connery sat down for an interview with Playboy in 1965. During the interview, he stated that it’s alright to hit a woman as long as it’s not done the same way one would hit a man. He shared that he does not think that there is anything wrong with hitting a woman, as he recommended not “doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man.”
The First Knight actor further tried to justify his statement, saying that it should be done only if other alternatives and warnings fail. He went on to add that he would follow these measures if a woman is “a b*tch, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually.”
And he was firm on his opinions even more than two decades later. During his 1987 interview with Barbara Walters, the actor reflected on his earlier statements, saying, “I haven’t changed my opinion.” He stated that there are situations when women can be “really provocative.”
He also said that women are pretty good at this, and it’s their behavior that leads to such situations. “They want to have the last word, and you give them the last word, but they’re not happy with the last word,” he said. And he believes that it would be the “absolutely right” thing to slap or hit a woman in such situations.
Sean Connery Claims His Statements Were Taken Out of Context
After making the same remark on several occasions, Sean Connery claimed that his statements were taken out of context. Following his interview with Barbara Walters, the Goldfinger star once again got candid about his thoughts on hitting a woman. He said,
“Sometimes there are women who take it to the wire. That’s what they’re looking for, the ultimate confrontation—they want a smack.”
However, ahead of the release of his ex-wife Diane Cilento’s autobiography, which alleged that the late actor abused her physically and mentally, he refuted his statement. “My view is I don’t believe that any level of abuse against women is ever justified under any circumstances,” Connery told Times of London. The Highlander actor denied any abuse allegations against him.
