His worldwide acclaim stems from iconic performances in the Terminator series and Conan the Barbarian. Additionally, his roles as an environmental advocate and philanthropist have solidified his enduring impact.
In a recently released YouTube video, Arnold Schwarzenegger has candidly shared the harrowing tale of his brush with mortality, a mere few months prior to embarking on the production of 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. Undergoing his third open-heart surgery, this time, fate took a dark turn, resulting in a challenging and protracted road to recovery.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Woke Up To A Bad News
Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed his intense apprehension, recalling the moment when he woke up to a group of doctors who delivered unsettling news. They informed him that the initially planned non-invasive surgery had taken an unexpected turn. A mistake had been made, puncturing the heart wall, resulting in internal bleeding. As a result, they had to swiftly perform an emergency open-heart procedure to save his life.
“I was really freaking out because I woke up and all of a sudden the doctors were in front of me saying, ‘I’m so sorry but it was unlike what we planned, which was non-invasive surgery. We made a mistake and poked through the heart wall, therefore there was internal bleeding. Therefore, we had to open you up very quickly to save your life,'” he said.
“The bottom line is, you cannot roll the clock back. It was a disaster. I was in the middle of a disaster. So now how do I get out of it? You have to shift gears. You collect yourself, shift gears and say, ‘OK, what I need to do now is: I’ve got to get out of this hospital.'”
Schwarzenegger detailed his recovery journey, mentioning that he initially took hesitant steps, gradually building his mobility. He humorously acknowledged looking somewhat clumsy as he navigated the hallway. However, he emphasized the doctor’s advice to exercise his lungs, crucial for avoiding pneumonia and its potential dangers. His positive attitude and robust support system were instrumental. Remarkably, just three months later, he commenced filming for Terminator 6. While Dark Fate may not rank among his finest works, it likely served as a motivating goal that contributed to his recovery.
