In the dazzling world of Hollywood, where egos clash and power plays are uncontrolled, an explosive feud erupted between Angelina Jolie and director Doug Liman during the production of their movie. The 57-year-old as the director, had reportedly grown tired of Jolie’s controlling behavior, reaching a breaking point in their professional relationship.
His frustration had increased to the extent that he expressed a preference to work with another Hollywood star, Tom Cruise.
The Director Of Mr & Mrs. Smith Criticizes Angelina Jolie’s Diva Behavior On Set
The $487 million film became a standout among the typical spy-focused action films. However, there were hints that Angelina Jolie’s diva behavior may have gone too far.
In the bonkers celebrity world, it’s not uncommon for Hollywood starlets to make extravagant demands. Whether it’s asking for all green Mr. & Mrs. candies to be removed from their sweet packets or requesting Evian baths, such requests have become standard fare.
And it seems that the 47-year-old was no exception. There were hints that she often tried to grab hold of the directing reins herself.
Doug Liman, the director of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, found himself at odds with Jolie during the filming of the movie, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Liman recounted how she expressed her concern that he would only use his preferred version in the editing room. He explained,
“When I was shooting a scene on Mr & Mrs. Smith and I had one idea of how the scene should play out . . . Angelina Jolie had a different idea. I said, OK, we could sit here and argue, but we’re wasting time, let’s just shoot it both ways.”
Further, the director added,
“And she was like, But, then you’ll just use your way, in the editing room. And I was like, well, I am the director. I might. But I’m going to use the way that’s best for the movie. I have no ego in this.”
Interestingly, Liman had nothing but praise for other actors he worked with, like Tom Cruise, the world’s-highest paid star. He described Cruise would be just like,
“You want it upside down? Right, side up? I’ll give it to you every possible way for the editing room.”
The clash between director and star raises important questions about power dynamics in the film industry and the challenges directors face in maintaining control over their creative vision.
Doug Liman Was Not The Only One To Criticzed Angelina Jolie
The Hollywood actress known for her critically acclaimed performances and commercial success, had a rough encounter with industry producer Scott Rudin, according to leaked Sony Pictures emails.
The incident unfolded when Jolie expressed displeasure upon learning that David Fincher was chosen to direct a Steve Jobs biopic instead of a Cleopatra remake in which she would star.
The leaked email chain between Rudin and then-Sony president Amy Pascal revealed the producer’s frustration with Jolie’s insistence on having Fincher direct her film, despite the 64-year-old’s desire for Fincher to focus on the Steve Jobs project.
In a heated exchange, Rudin referred to Jolie as a minimally talented spoiled brat and expressed his unwillingness to collaborate with her on a movie that she would run. He said,
“I’m not destroying my career over a minimally talented spoiled brat who thought nothing of shoving this off her plate for eighteen months so she could go direct a movie … I have no desire to be making a movie with her, or anybody, that she runs and that we don’t.”
These revelations shed light on the artist’s reputation as an actress who pushes the boundaries of creative control and asserts her dominance on set.
While Angelina Jolie’s talent and charisma remain undeniable, the leaked emails provide insight into the challenges that can arise when powerful personalities clash in the pursuit of artistic vision.
