The much-anticipated DC film The Flash is here and it finally sets things straight for the rather shaky timeline of stories. The film has rebooted the franchise and we are now entering into James Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s DC universe, which officially starts with Superman: Legacy. Ezra Miller has been a very passionate advocate for the character and has been hanging to the role since 2014, imagine that!
Despite the finesse with which the IT director Andy Muschietti handled the project, he can’t seem to run from the controversies that Ezra Miller carries with them. Pun, anyone?
Apart from the lackluster performance of the film at the box office, fans are also quite unsatisfied with how unfinished the film looked in terms of visuals and story.
Miller has been trying their level best to put their personal life, mental health issues, and controversies behind them, and Muschietti has also been vocal about his support for them.
Ezra Miller Shared How He Felt On His Instagram
The 30-year-old-actor had been suffering from ‘complex mental health troubles’ for which they are undergoing treatment. They also put out an apology saying that they are ‘taking the necessary measures to get back to a healthy stage’ of life.
Their Instagram post said-
“I’m encouraged by today’s outcome. Protective orders are meant to provide safety for individuals, families, and children who are in danger. They are not meant to be used as weapons. I have been unjustly and directly targeted by an individual who the facts have shown has a history of such manipulation and destructive actions. I implore those members of the media to hold themselves to a higher standard and take time to find the facts, rather than chasing clicks.”
The Controversial Case of Ezra Miller
Let’s just go further back into their timeline of controversies. While the filming for Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore was on going back in 2020, Ezra Miller started to show erratic behavioral symptoms, emotional breakdowns, and even alcohol and drug abuse.
This continued for nearly 2 years with incidents of – choking a woman, attacking artists, threatening a couple, hurling a chair at someone, burglary, unhealthy grooming of a 12-year-old, and alcohol abuse.
They had been arrested plenty of times before and a protective order had also been issued against them for grooming an 18-year-old nonbinary activist Gibson (formerly Tokata) Iron Eyes since they were 12. Shannon Guin, who is the mother of the activist, had been worried about Miller’s involvement with her child and how they had been extremely ‘controlling’ and displaying ‘cult-like’ behavior.
According to Ezra Miller’s lawyer, the court had only issued the protective order against them as they were unable to appear for the trial citing their troubled mental health. The court however lifted the order which was set to expire on July 1.
DC’s upcoming film Blue Beetle is set to release on August 18 this year, while the first official film for the DC Universe – Superman: Legacy is set for July 11 2025 release.
