Popular for some of the most critically and commercially acclaimed films that are unbound by the limitations of genres along with his comedic performances during his illustrious career, the Late Robin Williams has rightfully been called one of the finest entertainers of his era by many, and to this day, his performances serve as an inspiration and motivation for many aspiring actors.
Achieving almost everything that he set his mind to, there were barely a few things that the star wasn’t able to do due to various reasons, and one of them was something that he wanted very much to do. In the past, the star talked about how he wished to play the role of a major Batman villain in one of the biggest Batman films.
Robin Williams Wanted To Play The Riddler In Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy
Having been part of some of the most iconic films in history such as Jumanji, Hook, and Academy Award-winning film Good Will Hunting, the Late Robin Williams and his memorable performances have been a topic of respect and reverence for many, and many stars wish they could find themselves with a career like his. But even after so much success, the star had one wish he was unable to fulfill in his lifetime, which was to become The Riddler in director Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Since he had worked with the filmmaker on his 2002 psychological thriller Insomnia, when the Patch Adams star saw The Dark Knight, he expressed his wish to play the role of The Riddler in the next film if the chance arose. In the past, the star was given the opportunity to play the aforementioned role in 1995’s Batman Forever, but Jim Carrey bagged it. And even before that, he was asked to play The Joker in 1989’s Batman, but that too, was swiped away by Jack Nicholson. In an interview with Flexible Head, he said:
“I would work with Nolan again in a second, playing anyone in anything. It’d be fun to work with him again. I’d play the Riddler if they followed through with the offer! I’ve been screwed twice on that. Years ago they offered me the Joker then gave it to Jack Nicholson, then they offered me the Riddler and gave it to Jim Carrey. I’d be like, ‘Okay, is this real? If this is a real offer, yes! Don’t pump me again, motherf*ckers.’”
Unfortunately, Williams never got to play the character in his career, but still, his legacy remains standing tall.

Widely debated as well as considered to be one of, if not the best superhero film series to date, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is a masterpiece the most hardcore of comic book fans and the most elite of cinema-goers can enjoy without knowing too much about the other, a balance that is quite hard to make with comic book films.
Along with that, mixed into it is the signature Nolan storytelling style and cinematography that takes the breath away from the audience, not to mention, bringing the superhero down to earth and showcasing him in a way that had never been done before is what makes this series such a thing of beauty.
