Brad Pitt is arguably one of the most renowned faces of Hollywood and has been in the game for more than three decades now. With a repertoire of blockbuster projects and a coruscating collection of accolades, the Fight Club star is obviously privy to the lay of the land after navigating such a flourishing career in the industry.
However, even with success imbued in probably every pore of his life, one thing seems to be missing – a burning desire to be the best at what he does fuel by raw passion. And that’s why Tom Cruise is sitting on the throne of Hollywood’s greatest instead of Pitt.
Tom Cruise – Hollywood’s Top Gun
After over forty years of deadly stunts and unparalleled victories, Tom Cruise remains a force to be reckoned with. The highest-paid actor in the entirety of the film industry and perhaps one of the most famous, the Mission: Impossible star holds an immaculate history of breaking box-office records with his jaw-dropping movies.
But Cruise didn’t amass all this glorious stardom and power because of his imposing charm or dangerous yet impressive ventures in films. No, he became an action icon and one of the most bankable stars of Hollywood thanks to his endless devotion and almost feral passion that sets him apart from everyone else. It’s because rather than shying away from his aggression, the Top Gun: Maverick star capitalizes on it.
In an old interview, when he was asked whether he let his “rebel side” interrupt any productions or shootings, Cruise admitted that though he never lets that happen, he definitely has an “aggressive” streak. “I am very aggressive,” the four-time Oscar nominee said. “You’ve got to be aggressive; there’s too much responsibility not to be.”
“I have an aggressive side, absolutely. I need a creative outlet. Now I work out every day. I get up and work out 45 to 60 minutes. And that’s how I start my day. Discipline is very important to me.”
After all, you don’t become the best in Hollywood by being docile.
Brad Pitt & Tom Cruise – A Bitter Rivalry
While Cruise is all about endless hustle and dedication even at the age of 61, Brad Pitt has a more laid-back attitude toward his professional life. Even though the latter is only a couple of years younger than the Days of Thunder star, Pitt, believes that the film industry is more a younger man’s cup of tea than someone of his age.
“I keep doing less and less,” Pitt, 59, told GQ Australia a few years back. “I really believe that overall it’s a younger man’s game.”
But being polar opposites of each other isn’t exactly why Cruise and Pitt don’t get along, it has more to do with their constant competitiveness and losing out roles to each other that has sparked animosity between the two. Sources also claim that the Bullet Train star despised Cruise ever since they both worked together in 1994’s Interview with the Vampire.
Looks like opposites don’t attract after all.
