Superheros are not always tough! Despite being such tough and macho heroes on screen, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr have had their fair share of moments of vulnerability. The Iron Man actor in a chat with Jimmy Kimmel in 2016 admitted Chris Evans sometimes can be a “nervous nelly”. And just like in the movies, they both are left behind to pick up after each other.
Although the incident shared by RDJ showcases the vulnerable side of Evans, the Sherlock Holmes actor also confessed to having times of weakness, especially before major public events. Thus, this particular time when the Captain America actor was losing his marbles, Downey Jr had to bring him back to his senses before stepping into the spotlight.
Robert Downey Jr Had to Politely Ask Chris Evans to “Man-Up”!
Everyone expects the two Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans to butt heads as depicted in the superhero movies, but turns out it is completely the opposite in real life. Turns out despite being Captain America, Evans gets all the nerves before any such big premiers.
During the Captain America: Civil War premiere, the two on-screen rivals shared a car ride to the event, and that is exactly where Robert Downey Jr learned how big of a “nervous nelly” his co-star is. While his visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live the actor shared what went inside the car ride to the premiere. He revealed,
“Chris Evans is such a nervous nelly. He gets all.. you know he plays a butched guy in the movie. I love Captain America. Hate to say it, I’m not supposed to say it. But I love Chris, I love Captain America. Before the premiere, he is all nervous. We were supposed to drive in the Audi and he would be like bro I don’t know if you should go first or I should go first. “
In response to which he was compelled to ask Evans to get it together before they actually step out of the vehicle, he further continued saying,
“Man up, dude! We got to get to this premiere together!”
Thus, turns out that being a superhero doesn’t mean being immune to the humane human emotions that people go through in the course of their lives.
Robert Downey Jr Gets the Nerves Too?
Yes, Robert Downey Jr. has acknowledged that superheroes, such as himself, can also experience nervousness before public appearances. When Jimmy Kimmel asked about Chris Evans’ worries, he said,
“I think last night he [Chris Evans] suddenly all of a sudden realized ‘This is exciting!’”
He admitted despite his extensive experience in the entertainment industry, Downey Jr. just like anyone else feels a sense of excitement and nervousness prior to going on stage or appearing on shows like Jimmy Kimmel’s as well. Thus Evans freaking out before such a big premiere was a very expected response to him at least. However, Downey Jr. has also mentioned that with time and experience, one can become somewhat “immune” to these nerves. Over time, what was once nerve-wracking can transform into an exciting and familiar part of their lives.
Thus, despite somewhat being deemed as the real-life version of the enigmatic Iron Man on screen, who by the looks of it had endless charm and confidence, Robert Downey Jr.’s candid admission of his own nerves and vulnerabilities off-screen, only makes him even more human.
