Famous actor Mark Wahlberg has left Las Angeles to give more opportunities to his children, but his Hollywood journey wasn’t all red roses and beautiful wind. He had to venture into another profession while having a great acting career — which wasn’t easy.
The renowned actor made his acting debut in the television film The Substitute in 1993, but his big screen debut came the following year with the Renaissance Man.
Wahlberg has already put his hands in rapping, but the 52-year-old star (original member of New Kids on the Block) said he quit his music career because he didn’t like the group’s musical style. When going to find fame as rapper Marky Mark, the actor admitted that he realized it wasn’t as cool as he once thought.
Being featured in movies like Uncharted, Mile 22, Infinite, and more, Wahlberg also worked (alongside) as the executive producer of television series such as Boardwalk Empire (2010), In Treatment (2008), and the highly successful comedy Entourage (2004), which was partly based on his experiences in Hollywood.
Why Did Mark Wahlberg Take Another Profession When He Was Already Thriving in Acting?
Mark Wahlberg ventured into film production because he wasn’t always the first choice for scripts. Despite his Hollywood stardom, he often didn’t get scripts first, which was the reason behind his motivation to become a producer. The star shared the appeal of actors taking on a producing role in Hollywood:
“The only reason why I wanted to was because I was never going to get the script first. I had to wait for Brad Pitt to pass; I had to wait for this one to pass. So I had to go out there and create my own thing, find material, develop it for myself and have creative control.”
Wahlberg continued:
“I’d rather be behind the wheel of a car going down a highway at 200 miles per hour than in the backseat with somebody else in control. So that was it for me, and then I just loved it, and it was addictive to me.”
Besides having a thriving acting career, Wahlberg started his production firm, Closest to the Hole, in 2004. This company has been involved in over 15 film productions, and it played a role in creating the HBO series Entourage (2004–11), based on Wahlberg’s journey to Hollywood stardom.
Mark Wahlberg is Now Working on His ‘Hollywood 2.0’ Dream Project After Moving to Las Vegas
Now, after having a promising career as an actor and producer, Mark Wahlberg has left Los Angeles — revealing that he doesn’t regret leaving the city behind. He moved to California initially to make movies and made three movies in the last 15 years there.
Wahlberg, his wife, American model Rhea Durham, and their four children, Ella (19), Michael (16), Brendan (14), and Grace (12), left Hollywood for Vegas in 2022.
The star called Las Vegas “the best of both worlds” because it gave him and his family a welcoming atmosphere. He said, “The kids are really happy, and it’s all about them.”
After spending a good amount of time with his career in Los Angeles, the actor seems to have comfortably settled in his new home and is working on his ‘Hollywood 2.0’ dream project — looks like he does not wish to return.
