Steven Seagal rose to prominence with the action flicks that made him one of the prominent stars in the Hollywood industry. However, his career was tainted with several controversies with one involving s*xual harassment or assault that he was accused of by multiple women. While things didn’t work out for him in the U.S., he decided to take a different route or to be specific, kick off his personality status in a different country.
While he is surrounded by a plethora of reasons that brought his career into question, it looks like he is making ends meet by being a Russian star.
Steven Seagal’s Thoughts About Living in Russia
The 71-year-old actor, Steven Seagal declared “loving” Russia after he received an award from Russian President Vladimir Putin. He was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship medal for his “major contribution to the development of international cultural and humanitarian cooperation.”
At a founding event for the International Movement of Russians in Moscow this March, he got candid about his feelings for the country as his upbringing happened in a Russian household.
He shared,
“My father was pure Russian, and I was raised in a pure Russian household, because my mother was completely immersed in the Russian culture and she did not have parents.”
He continued,
“So I grew up with Russian culture. I grew up loving Russia and loving all of what I learned about it from a very early age. And for me, I am on million per cent Russophile and and one million per cent Russian.”
The former Hollywood star was appointed Russia’s special envoy to the U.S. While he continued to work in Hollywood till 2019, he continued to be in a negative light due to s*xual assault allegations.
What Happened to Steven Seagal?
Seagal’s action star status was quite prominent in the 1990s however it eventually faded with time. His audience got bored from the same action flicks which plummeted his popularity. The fact that his off-screen outspoken personality and criticizing others made things quite hard for him.
He also garnered negative attention when multiple women started coming forward to open up about all the wrongdoings he did with them.
Back in 2010, his former executive assistant sued him and his production company, Steamroller Productions for s*xual harassment, human trafficking, wrongful dismissal, and other charges. Though she, later on, dropped the suit without disclosing the reason.
In January 2018, two women filed police reports in LA with one of them being a former On Deadly Ground extra, Regina Simons. She accused Seagal of r*ping her when she was 18.
