John Wick Star Keanu Reeves Openly Admits he Deserved Being Bashed for This One Performance

Keanu Reeves has always been a humble actor. Although he has had his fair share of blockbuster hits and major flops, the actor is not one to shy away from his failures. Making fun of his own roles in some old movies, Reeves stated that he deserved some criticism for a particular movie back in the 1990s.

After John Wick: Chapter 4 made millions at the global box office, the actor sat down for an interview. Remembering the olden days when Keanu Reeves was somewhat of a different person, the actor poked fun at his 1992 movie Dracula and stated that he deserved the hatred towards him.

Keanu Reeves Admitted That He Deserved To Be Ridiculed

Before his iconic portrayal of Neo in The Matrix back in 1999, the actor had also partaken in several other films which were not so great. Adapting one of the classic novels into a film, Keanu Reeves starred in the 1992 film titled Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Gary Oldman helmed the film as its lead actor aka Count Dracula. Alongside Oldman, Winona Ryder portrayed the role of Mina Murra/Elisabeta while Reeves starred as Jonathan Harker in the movie. Talking about it on the Smartless podcast, the Speed actor made fun of his own character from the 1992 movie and how his English accent was so terrible.

“I think Dracula, I got kicked in the teeth and maybe deservedly so for my English accent,”

Although the movie received great reviews, Keanu Reeves was indeed ridiculed for his terrible accent and the actor had to prove his worth later on to be considered a serious actor. Even though the actor was ridiculed, shooting Bram Stoker’s Dracula wasn’t all bad since he may have been accidentally married to his co-star Winona Ryder while shooting a wedding scene.

Shooting the marriage scene in the movie, the ceremony was shot at the Los Angeles Greek Orthodox church. What’s harrowing is that they filmed the scene with an actual Romanian Orthodox minister.

Stating the technicalities, Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves may not have married in any legal sense but according to Ryder, they were married “under the eyes of God”. The John Wick actor revealed that Ryder often texts him messages that would start with “Hello, husband” but both actors are completely fine with it.

With a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDB and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is available to rent on Apple TV+.
