Sydney Sweeney burst into the limelight through her portrayal of a troubled teenager with a promiscuous reputation in the hit series Euphoria. Her intense performance as Cassie Howard got her recognized not just by young adults but by critics as well and earned her a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022. Apart from her strong acting chops, Sweeney also became Hollywood’s heartthrob with her sizzling good looks.
But the road to fame was not always easy and smooth for the talented star. Sweeney in her quest to attain stardom, endured many tough times including being brutally criticized for her physical appearance which almost made her quit her dreams of becoming an actor.
Sydney Sweeney Was Consistently Body-Shamed At Every Stage
The path to becoming a star comes with multiple obstacles and no one knows that better than Sydney Sweeney. The Euphoria star who now makes hearts and knees weak was body-shamed and discouraged many times during her early years. In an interview with GQ Hype, Sweeney opened up about previous experiences during which she felt insulted as a person. The actor was reportedly told by a casting director that she had no future in the entertainment industry because of the way she looked. But the most scathing comment was made by Sweeney’s friend’s mother who completely undermined the star’s penchant and skill for sports.
“I’m a very active person. I get hurt. I get bruises. I get cuts. I think I came back from laser tag, and I had rug burns all over my legs because I got really into it. And she sat me up on the counter and told me that no boy will ever love me if I have marks on my body.”
Following this extremely insensitive and s*xist remark, Sydney Sweeney chose to reply most fittingly and courageously with the retort,
“I told her, well, I guess I’m just gonna have to love myself.”
Despite being young and vulnerable at the time, Sweeney stated that these incidents gave her the necessary courage to stand up for herself and also appreciate her body even more as time went on.
Sydney Sweeney Wants To Be A Role Model For Young Girls
Despite creating flutters with her good looks and talent, Sydney Sweeney was consistently trolled and called out for her physical appearance as a young girl. The White Lotus actor who braved the odds and fended off all the brutal criticisms said that she became a stronger person because of it.
“Something that I’ve really started telling myself is this is the one body I’ll have for the rest of my life. And it does so much for me and I need to appreciate it and I need to love it because I’m not going to get another one”.
With her positive outlook toward her body and appreciation for the way she looked, Sweeney hoped to set an inspiring example for young women across the world who may have faced similar issues in their lives.
“I want to make sure that I am what I wish I had to look up to when I was little. That’s something that I’ve always kept in my mind,”
With a lot of eyes on her as an actor, Sydney Sweeney spoke about her responsibility to ensure that her love and acceptance of her physicality were appropriately translated and understood by people.
