Christian Bale was part of the 1994 classic film Little Women, way before he embraced stardom for his role as Batman. The actor played the role of Theodore Laurence or Laurie in the movie. The film received six Academy Award nominations and won Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Apart from the commercial and critical success of the film, it also holds a special significance in the personal life of American Psycho star Christian Bale.
Christian Bale met his wife through his co-star Winona Ryder
The Dark Knight star and Winona Ryder worked together in the 1994 film, directed by Gillian Armstrong. The movie is based on Louisa May Alcott’s two-volume novel of the same title. The cast of the film comprised Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Christian Bale, Eric Stoltz, and Susan Sarandon, among others.
While doing the film together, Christian Bale and Winona Ryder ended up being good friends. She made the actor’s life more meaningful when she introduced Bale to his present wife, Sibi Blazic. At the time, Blazic was the Beetlejuice fame actress’ personal assistant.
Blazic has been a constant support for Bale’s acting career. He shared his feelings at the 2011 Critics’ Choice Awards,
“I get choked up about that stuff. [My wife] had to be married to so many different characters over our marriage. I know that it truly would be impossible to do it without her. She’s such a good, strong woman.”
They were in a relationship for some time and eventually eloped in Las Vegas in January 2000. The couple has been together for more than two decades and are parents of two beautiful daughters.
Did Christian Bale ever date Johnny Depp’s ex Winona Ryder?
Gillian Armstrong, the director of the classic film Little Women, had once shared about the bond between the former co-stars Christian Bale and Winona Ryder.
Armstrong revealed that Ryder and the Batman Begins star developed a strong bond with each other on the sets of Little Women. Their real-life bond was similar to the on-screen bond of their characters in the drama. She also shared that she was sure that Bale and Ryder had a good relationship but did not date. She recalled in an interview with Vulture,
“I think [Winona Ryder] said, ‘We were like brother and sister, but there was no romance.’ Winona was up there with her boyfriend at the time; she and Christian were buddies. But no, there were no romances — that I know of.”
Armstrong added that she believed the kissing scene between these two actors in the movie was the most uncomfortable moment for them.
“Considering their ages, and considering that they were buddies, probably the most awkward scene [for the two of them] would’ve been the kissing scene. I don’t think Christian had kissed too many people onscreen before. It was a genuine blush from Christian.”
Little Women can be streamed on Netflix.
