Benedict Cumberbatch recalls how he tried to stay in the character even off the camera
In the romantic drama movie The Power Of The Dog, Benedict Cumberbatch played the role of a rancher named Phil Burbank. The movie was directed by Jane Campion and it was released on 19 November 2021. For the Sherlock actor, it was important for him to stay in the character even when the camera wasn’t filming him. While talking about how prepared to get into the character of Phil the rancher, the British actor said,
“I wanted that layer of stink on me. I wanted people in the room to know what I smelt like. It was hard, though. It wasn’t just in rehearsals. I was going out to eat and meet friends of Jane and stuff. I was a bit embarrassed by the cleaner, in the place I was living. “If someone forgot, on the first day, and called me Benedict, I wouldn’t move.”
When asked about smoking cigarettes during the filming the actor said,
“That was really hard. Filterless rollies, just take after take after take. I gave myself nicotine poisoning three times. When you have to smoke a lot, it genuinely is horrible. I really wanted to become world class at the banjo. And I’m very much not. I’m very far off.”
When the movie was released in the year 2021, fans loved the actor’s performance in the romantic drama. The movie was based on the book written by Thomas Savage which was of the same name.
Benedict Cumberbatch wrote a few scenes for MCU’s Doctor Strange
During an interview, the Good Omens actor talked about how fun it was for him to play variants of Doctor Strange. The actor also shared the story of how the makers allowed him to write a few scenes for the movie. While talking about his MCU character the actor said,
“I got to write some of those scenes … I suggested that it needed to get darker at a point. There was a slightly more saccharine version at one stage and I’m really happy with the way it evolved. Sam Raimi was so game for it and Michael Waldron really supported me to write it as well.”
The Hawking actor stated that he enjoyed playing the variants of his MCU character and he is looking forward to playing the character of Doctor Strange again. Doctor Strange arrived in the theatres on 4 November 2016 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in the theatres on 6 May 2022.
