Andrew Garfield is internationally recognized for his Spider-Man role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. But the actor has mesmerized his audience with some outstanding performances that perfectly show how serious he is for his craft. From Boy A to Under the Banner of Heaven miniseries, he has continued to bring his acting charm to the front of the screen.
Andrew Garfield’s Strange Request for Liam Neeson While Filming Silence
He was quite serious which is why he decided not to confront his co-star before the actual confrontation on-screen when he meets his mentor. The Batman Begins actor in an interview with CinemaBlend opened up about his co-star’s strange request not to meet him before their scene.
“Andrew did not want to see me until the camera turned.”
However, he opened up about cheating a bit as he showered him with a friendly hug.
“I cheated a bit, because I gave him a hug when I came on set, and he went, ‘Oh, no no. Don’t do that!’ [Laughs] And it was like, ‘Well, get over it. Act it!’ [Laughs]”
Despite Neeson giving a friendly hug to his co-star, he shared that the scene was quite “lovely” to execute due to being beautifully written. However, it was not that much of a strange request given the fact that Garfield went to some extreme ends to fully engross himself in the role.
Andrew Garfield Went Celibate to Prepare for His Role
Garfield appeared in the WTF with Marc Maron podcast and shared about some “trippy” experiences while preparing for his Jesuit priest role. He shared that he spent a year studying Catholicism through the guidance of a real-life Jesuit priest in New York, Father James Martin.
“He became my friend and sort of spiritual director for a year.”
“I had an incredibly spiritual experience. I did a bunch of spiritual practices every day, I created new rituals for myself. I was celibate for six months and fasting a lot, because me and Adam had to lose a bunch of weight anyway.”
“It was very cool, man. I had some pretty wild, trippy experiences from starving myself of s-x and food at that time.”
His performance was critically acclaimed though the film was unable to impress the audience grossing just $22 million against a production budget of $50 million.
Silence is available on Amazon Prime Video.
