The ongoing strikes in Hollywood are the major highlight of the town. Ever since the strike commenced, it has halted many upcoming projects. Many actors have come up in support of their peers. However, Arrow actor Stephen Amell finds the ongoing strike ‘frustrating’.
Although the actor has clarified that he supports his fellow actors, he can’t support the strike. The actors are on strike for more equitable remuneration and security in their jobs.
Stephen Amell opined on the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has been making headlines ever since it started. It’s not just that many major projects are on hiatus; due to the strike, many production houses have to incur losses as nothing new is in the making.
However, the union seems adamant about carrying forward the strike if their demands are not met. Many A-list actors like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Susan Sarandon, and Natalie Portman have come out to support the ongoing strike.
However, Canadian actor Stephen Amell recently said that he isn’t in support of the ongoing strike. During an appearance at Raleigh’s GalaxyCon, the actor said,
“I feel like I’m insulated in Hollywood because that’s where I live. I feel like a lot of people in this room aren’t aware of the strike. I support my union, I do, and I stand with them but I do not support striking. I don’t. I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. I think that the thinking as it pertains to shows — like this show that I’m on that premiered last night — I think it is myopic, and I stand with my union.”
Amell is best known for portraying Oliver Queen in the television series Arrow. According to Variety, Amell earned $125,000 per episode for the series. Moreover, the actor has a net worth of $7 million.
Amell’s saying that the strike is unnecessary is like a privilege, neglecting others’ needs.
Why is SAG-AFTRA the hot topic of Hollywood?
It’s the first time in the history of Hollywood that it is facing a double strike. The writers and actors have walked out of sets and have decided to go on strike until their demands are met. The SAG-AFTRA strike started on July 14, 2023, and ever since then, it’s been making headlines.
The strike has garnered media attention as many celebrities and production houses have spoken for and against it. While some celebrities are in support of the strike, many production houses are criticizing it, as many major upcoming projects are hampered due to the strike.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, actors’ and writers’ jobs were highly affected. Moreover, the involvement of Artificial Intelligence in the film industry has resulted in a threat to their jobs as actors fear that AI can replace them. The strikers are fighting to get equitable pay and security in jobs from AI.
