It’s quite common for many stars of Hollywood to not get along with each other. Look at Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel for example. Despite working on projects together, some celebrities just don’t get along.

One such scenario was witnessed on the sets of Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). Two of the best stars of that generation, Winona Ryder and Gary Oldman had troubles working together on the movie. On-screen, both of the celebrities played a crucial role and the nature of their characters required the two to have good chemistry off-screen as well.

In Ryder’s unauthorized biography, the actress explained that the movie was very challenging for her and that her co-star Gary Oldman didn’t really make it any better. She wrote,

“We hung out before the movie in rehearsals and stuff but it wasn’t the same after we started shooting. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s his way of working, but I felt like there was a danger.”

Initially, the two got along, but over time, their friendship deteriorated, putting the production of the film in danger.

Later, the director of the movie, Francis Ford Coppola, confirmed that the two had trouble filming scenes together. He said,

“They got along, and then one day they didn’t. Absolutely didn’t get along. None of us were privy to what happened.”

Things reportedly got so bad that Coppola had to tell Ryder to imagine that she is filming the scene with someone else instead of Oldman.

Winona Ryder’s experience while filming the movie wasn’t entirely bad after all. On the set of the movie, she met actor Keanu Reeves. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ryder explained,

“I have these journals, and I just pulled one out recently. It was from around the time of Dracula. The text: ‘angst, angst, angst, angst, thank God for Keanu. Thank God I’m going to see Keanu.’ I was always just so happy when you were around because there was so much, sort of, trauma.”

Over the years, the actress has been really grateful for having a friend like Keanu Reeves. In the movie, the two even got married in a scene and it was clear that Ryder was comfortable while filming it, unlike her scenes with Gary Oldman.
