“I felt by far the least self-conscious”: Kate Winslet Had the Best On-Screen S-x With Oscar Nominee Actress Despite Her Sizzling Chemistry With Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet Had the Best On-Screen S-x With Oscar Nominee Actress Despite Her Sizzling Chemistry With Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet’s identity, no matter how precious and individualistic in terms of her very many accomplishments in film and theatre, is and will always be linked to that of Leonardo DiCaprio. The pair’s epic romance tragedy, Titanic, which catapulted them both to unprecedented fame was made even more romantic in the masses’ perception due to their sizzling chemistry. The otherwise commonplace names Jack and Rose now became almost synonymous with Romeo and Juliet. And in their doomed romance, the characters share more similarities than just the initials of their names.

However, no matter how magnified and deified Kate Winslet becomes because of the idealistic notion of love and heartbreak, the actress will still stand by her declaration of feeling a sisterly love for her co-star. As concerned fans, it then makes us think, who if not Leo DiCaprio could make Winslet feel things on set while filming a particularly steamy scene?

Kate Winslet Has No Qualms About Revealing NSFW Details

The Brits are known for their direct approach to things, whether compliments or criticism. Kate Winslet is no different. The award-winning actress has spent a lifetime curating a perfectly crafted filmography that is not just dazzling but filled with variety and range. Demonstrating an affinity for a challenge, Winslet took on the drama Ammonite which explores her character’s intense affair with another woman played by Saoirse Ronan. Speaking of the extremely graphic s-x scenes in the film between her and the Ladybird actress, Winslet claimed:

“Saoirse and I choreographed the scene ourselves. It’s definitely not like eating a sandwich. I just think Saoirse and I, we just felt really safe. Francis [Lee, the director] was naturally very nervous. And I just said to him, ‘Listen, let us work it out.’ And we did. ‘We’ll start here. We’ll do this with the kissing, boobs, you go down there, then you do this, then you climb up here.’

I mean, we marked out the beats of the scene so that we were anchored in something that just supported the narrative. I felt the proudest I’ve ever felt doing a love scene on Ammonite. And I felt by far the least self-conscious.”

Loosely based on the true life story of British paleontologist Mary Anning, the film won massive acclaim for the leading pair’s volatile, turbulent performance while also receiving criticism for its too-graphic scenes without an X-rating. Ammonite went on to garner a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The concept of intimacy coordinators is fairly new to the industry. Their sole purpose is to make sure that the actors are alright with their on-screen partners and feel relatively safe and comfortable during filming a raunchy scene that involves either or both of them being naked. During the filming of Titanic, such a job title and the profession did not exist.

Whatever was filmed was choreographed or improvised on set – a job that Kate Winslet took upon herself to do even while filming her same-sex intimacy scene in Ammonite. In that, Winslet comes off as not only more powerful but assertive in her creativity as well.
