In an interview, Connelly talked about Cruise’s impressive work ethic and how he entirely devoted himself to whatever project he was working with. The Blood Diamond actress felt “beholden” to Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer (the producer), and audiences around the world for keeping up with such a huge project.

“He’s so exceptional. Spending time with him, you understand how someone has been such a movie star for so many years. It was clear to me what the franchise means to him, so I felt beholden to him, [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer, and the audiences who love the film so much.”

Connelly further revealed that she was afraid of flying but didn’t want to admit it in front of Tom Cruise because he was so “darn cool”.

“‘Oh my god, the cool kid is talking to me. Don’t mention that you’re afraid of flying.’ So it was kind of like that. His example is quite inspiring.”

The project was so intense that the second-in-lead of the movie Miles Teller was also scared of starring in the movie. Miles Teller was also motivated and inspired to do work after seeing Tom Cruise on the sets of Top Gun: Maverick.

Miles Teller was so scared of starring in such a huge project that he rejected the movie initially. After getting convinced to take on the role, Teller saw that Tom Cruise was the actor that was literally non-stop while working.

“I mean years and years of f—king carving this thing and then reshooting stuff if it’s not great. It’s just wonderful to be a part of something like that because he’s [Cruise] doing so much heavy lifting, and he’s literally just nonstop, and his attention to detail is just ridiculous. It will never be matched.”

Having starred in the original 1986 movie, Top Gun, the sequel earned a whopping $1.45 billion at the global box office. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, currently stands at a rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.3/10 on IMDB.
