The 58-year-old Canadian actor previously revealed to Esquire that the wedding scene between their characters was not entirely for the show.
“We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests…Winona says we are [married]. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married… under the eyes of God.”
Ryder, on the other hand, supported Reeves’ statements in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2018 to promote a different project they collaborated on, ironically titled Destination Wedding.
“We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So, I think we’re married.”
Even though Ryder and Reeves were “married in the eyes of God,” they are not together right now.

In the past, Ryder had also jokingly stated that the two of them were legally married in Bram Stoker’s 1992 film due to technicality. According to the Girl, Interrupted actress, her co-star made her feel safe and protected, which created the ideal atmosphere for filming. To quote her:
“I was surprised that I was so surprised when I read it because this was very different, this material was different, and it was sort of ambitious in a way. They don’t really make movies like this anymore and so I was … it was sort of nostalgic in a way.”
The Beetlejuice actress further explained:
“I just felt like there was really, there was something very special. I’ve always felt like, with Keanu, I’ve always felt … and I feel very protective of you. And that’s rare and it’s also, it’s a beautiful thing.”
On the professional front, Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 4 recently set a number of box office records, while Ryder will appear in the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, which is set to hit theaters in 2024 (6 September).
