John Hamm Opens Up About Losing To Bryan Cranston Four Times
Two of the most popular series of all time “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” have competed for a lot of times against each other for awards. While it has always been frustrating to see the rival take away the award. In 2015, Jon Hamm’s win at the Emmy finally gave him some relief. Recently he was invited to The Howard Stern show where a lot of topics were discussed along with the Emmy Win.
“Had I never won for that role I think it would’ve hurt a lot more, but [I did win]. And I thank Bryan every day for kindly bowing out … so I could come in at the end.”
Even though Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston are each other’s competitors, there has never been bad blood between the two. Hamm has always considered Cranston to be a great friend and even spoke about the similarities in career he share with him.
“He, a lot like me, was kind of a journeyman guy for a long time [before] finally getting this kind of career-defining role. He has made the most of it. He’s one of the mensch-iest guys you’ll ever meet.”
The Baby Driver actor also recalled one awkward interaction between the two at the AMC photoshoot, where Cranston felt that he got the “wrong end of the deal” alongside Hamm.
The Tag actor recently appeared in another big franchise film named Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise. He played the role of Vice Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson. The film broke the box office record through its earnings as it scored over $770M on an international level.
Bryan Cranston’s Heartfelt Advice To Jon Hamm On Mad Men Ending
A show which lasted for almost seven seasons makes a beloved place in fans’ hearts. It’s hard for many fans to see it come to an end in its last season. But it’s also not easy for the actors to let go of the show as they have been a part of it for more than 5 years. Well, Bryan Cranston understands the feeling of the impact of the show ending on the actor’s mind. So he reached out to Jon Hamm to give him support during this emotional time.
“The one constant thing I’ve had in my career is now removed. And that’s an eye-opener: Are people still going to take me seriously? Am I just going to do romantic comedies for the rest of my life? What’s next? And I don’t know, you know? I wish I was smug enough to have had a grand plan. It’s hard, man. It’s hard to let it go. It’ll hit you a couple of different ways at different times.”
Speaking of Bryan Cranston’s current update on his career, he will be starring in an upcoming film by Wes Anderson named Asteroid City. The film will hit the theatres on June 16th, 2023.
