Starring alongside for over a decade, the cast of Marvel’s Avengers has grown to become very good friends. Robert Downey Jr., who starred as Iron Man in the MCU, has said that the Avengers are friends in real life. And the friendship between the Iron Man actor and Mark Ruffalo goes way back, even before starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latter has even stated that Downey Jr. is like an older brother to him.
While the two share the same feelings toward each other, the 58-year-old actor recently explained the time when he was upset with his friend and co-star after he refused to get The Avengers matching tattoo.
Robert Downey Jr. on Mark Ruffalo Not Getting The Avengers Cast Tattoo
Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. first shared the screen in the 2007 David Fincher film Zodiac. However, as per the Hulk actor, the two have known each other long before starring in the 2007 movie. As the two featured in the MCU, their friendship only grew stronger with each other and the rest of the cast as well.
And the original cast members of the 2012 film decided to get matching tattoos to celebrate their bond. The Oppenheimer star recently recalled how things folded out when they decided to get matching tattoos during an interview with Wired. Talking about his tattoos, the actor shared that he has six of them.
He shared that one of these was The Avengers cast tattoo that he got with the rest of the cast members. Downey Jr. shared,
“That happened the evening of the premiere of Infinity War. Scarlett got it first, then CE got it, then I got it, then JR got it, then Chris Hemsworth got it.”
However, when it came to Ruffalo, the Marvel star shared that he denied getting a tattoo, saying, “I’m not getting that tattoo. I don’t want to be part of your Hollywood inside game.” He further stated that applauded his decision before mouthing “F*ck you Mark” to the camera.
What Robert Downey Jr. Misses The Most About the MCU?
During an earlier interview, Robert Downey Jr. opened up about making many friends while starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Talking about what he misses the most about starring in Marvel movies is working alongside Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, the Iron Man 3 director Shane Black, and the Russo Brothers.
While he is known to be friends with The Avengers stars, he and the Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo are known to be very close friends even before working together in the MCU. And he was also the one who convinced him to accept the role of Hulk for the 2012 movie.
Ruffalo has shared that he was hesitant to accept the offer until he received a call from his Zodiac co-star. “And then I got a call from Downey,” he shared before adding, “And he just simply said: ‘Ruffalo, let’s go. We got this,’ in true Iron Man fashion.'” The actor has since reprised the character several times and is also expected to get a solo feature soon.
