Dwayne Johnson’s Hollywood career as a mega action star entails many titles. The wrestler-turned-actor has successfully shaped his career by appearing in the outstanding hit franchise Fast and Furious and several other movies.
Johnson went on a fantasy adventure journey with A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt in Jaume Collet-Serra’s 2021 film, Jungle Cruise. Johnson had appeared in some other movies similar to the action ploy Jungle Cruise, so, it is his territorial journey after the Jumanji franchise and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But some different actors were in the talks for the lead when the film was in development.
Dwayne Johnson’s Jungle Cruise Almost Starred Tom Hanks
As per reports, Toy Story 4 actors Tom Hanks and Tim Allen were in talks with Disney for the earlier version of Jungle Cruise. Well, that didn’t happen and Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt paired up for the Disney adventure fighting evil forces in Amazon.
In an interview with the Jungle Cruise actors, Cinema Belnd’s Dirk Libbey asked Johnson about the earlier idea that was in development. Responding to that Johnson said that it’s the usual business in Hollywood that someone in the talks for a movie and somebody drops the project “it just goes away.”
“I just think in the world of Hollywood, as you know, things get developed and there’s an energy and fervor behind it and then something happens and somebody drops out and it just goes away. But also, everything happens in the way it should happen and by the time it got to me it was a complete rewrite from page one.”
Reportedly, Hanks refused his part in the film saying, “I don’t wanna do it.” Certainly, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen’s version of the movie would be much different than Johnson-produced Jungle Cruise. At least, it would not be as hilarious as Johnson-Blunt chemistry. The $220 million movie’s adventure continued well even without the presence of the legendary actor.
Dwayne Johnson Said He Looks Up To Tom Hanks With Great Respect
Following their appearance together in an episode of Saturday Night Live, The Rock took to Instagram to thank the legendary actor by posting a photograph of the Bridge of Spies star. “(I) want to say thank you to my bud Tom Hanks for taking time out of his busy schedule as he’s shooting with Spielberg in NY, to come by and help induct me into the #SaturdayNightLive 5 Timer’s Club,” Johnson wrote.
“I look up to this man with such great admiration and respect. His work ethic, talent, humility and most of all his kindness. Values that are important to me. OG Hanks,” he added.
Remarkably, Johnson was the third five-time host of Saturday Night Live in just a few episodes. In the show, Hank and Johnson joked about running for the 2020 presidential elections where Johnson named the Cast Away actor as his running mate. “America needs us,” they joked. “The only thing the country agrees on any more is pizza. . .and us,” they added.
“I would get the senior vote because I fought in World War II. . .in several films,” Hanks further added to the ongoing fun. “I would get the minority vote because everyone just assumes I am what they are,” Johnson responded agreeing to the actor.
However, Johnson later clarified that it was all part of a joke, saying “Tom and I are only joking.” but they have made a solid campaign design in the show.
