“I don’t think they should carry on”: Helena Bonham Carter Wants Netflix To End ‘The Crown’ as There’s No Story to Tell

The Crown has been termed as one of the best shows on Netflix, considering its high critical praise and two Golden Globe wins. But as the seasons have progressed, the show has fallen into a pit of controversies after the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown actress Helena Bonham Carter also shared her viewpoint on the situation. The Fight Club actress shared that she doesn’t want the show to continue, as there is no more story. The actress urged the filmmakers to end the show as soon as possible.

Helen Bonham Carter wants The Crown to end soon

The Crown has been deemed one of the most critically acclaimed Netflix shows and has garnered several accolades and recognition through the run of its 5 seasons. But the actress Helena Bonham Carter believes that the show has run its course and the filmmakers should finally end it.

The Fight Club actress starred as Princess Margaret in the third and fourth seasons of the show. In an interview with The Guardian, the actress explained that the show started as a historical drama, but now it has crashed with the present and believes that there is no point in continuing the story further. She further expressed,

“I should be careful here too, but I don’t think they should carry on. I’m in it and I loved my episodes, but it’s very different now. When ‘The Crown’ started it was a historic drama, and now it’s crashed into the present. But that’s up to them.”

Although the show has earned several accolades over the years, many fans agree with Helena Bonham Carter that the show should end soon. And considering the show has crashed into modern history, it has also garnered some controversies around it.

The Crown star defended the show against heavy criticism

Even though the show has been praised by critics and fans for its brilliance, the later seasons have been showered with criticisms from many including the James Bond star Judi Dench. The actress denounced the show for its historical inaccuracies and called it “crude sensationalism.” 

And with the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II, many have been lambasting the show and accusing it of an inaccurate portrayal of modern history. But the creators and the actors of the show have defended the Emmy-winning show against harsh criticism, including the Margaret Thatcher actress Gillian Anderson. Anderson went on to state,

There are a lot of researchers involved, and a lot of people checking and double-checking and triple-checking. There’s a lot that has not been written about that could be written about.

And it appears that Netflix isn’t bothered by the nonsensical hate against their magnum opus, as it has already been greenlit for the sixth season. But it has been confirmed that The Crown will end with its sixth season and mark the end of one of the most critically acclaimed shows on Netflix.
