Gary Oldman has been a fabulous star right from the inception of his career. A hard-working actor who jumps into his character to portray it in the best possible way, the 65-year-old has won numerous Oscars for his heartwarming performance. However, it seems even highly reputable and respectable stars can make some real blunder mistakes in their lives which they end up regretting later just like everyone else, judging from Oldman’s revelations.
Stepping into the limelight to disclose his personal affairs, Gary Oldman has revealed one big mistake about his ‘crazy love affair’ with Uma Thurman that he regrets to date.
Gary Oldman Left First Wife and Firstborn For Uma Thurman
Renowned for roleplaying Sirius Black in Harry Potter, Gary Oldman has quite a history of his love life, and that too, rather an infamous one. As revealed through various sources, the Oscar winner left his first wife and actress Lesley Manville for the industry’s heartthrob, Uma Thurman.
Oldman was married to Manville for nearly 6 years after and even had his first child, a son, with the actress. But after meeting Thurman on the sets of State of Grace, the Harry Potter actor found himself smitten with his 12 years younger co-star.
Thus, he decided to leave his first child and firstborn, only to get married to Uma Thurman in the same year, a mere few months after their first meeting. The pair even starred together in the romance drama Henry and June, which further solidified the audience’s interest in this couple. While their relationship was mostly private, they were occasionally seen together for red-carpet events.
However, the duo’s marriage didn’t seem to last long even after their ‘crazy love affair’, as nearly two years after their first meet, in 1992 both Gary Oldman and Uma Thurman decided to part ways, each to go to their own separate ways.
Uma Thurman Calls Marrying Gary Oldman ‘A Mistake’
While the pair didn’t quite open up about their divorce at first, leaving fans confused, four years later Uma Thurman decided to share her views on marriage with Oldman. She said,
“We met when I was 18. He was 12 years older. It was a crazy love affair that ended, as it needed to. He was my first love. I had no prior experience.”
With Thurman calling their marriage a ‘mistake’, it seemed that Gary Oldman agreed with her. Claiming how relationships are ‘hard’, Oldman went ahead to joke,
“I don’t think it meant very much to either of us.”
After their split, both actors went ahead to remarry. Uma Thurman married Marvel Cinematic Universe’s TV series Moon Knight star, Ethan Hawke in 1998, while Gary Oldman tied the knot with Donyo Fiorentino in 1997. Although both’s other marriages didn’t last either, their love lives are still going strong with news of their relationship status popping up every once in a while.
