Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been busy ever since the release of Black Adam left the audiences in awe and surprise. As the battle between the critics and the audience begins anew, Dwayne Johnson felt he had something to share.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, the Jungle Cruise actor talked about what acting means to him and how he is content with being called a one-dimensional actor.
The Rock Sorts His Personal Sh-t On His Own
Following the mixed reception that DC’s anti-hero movie Black Adam managed to garner, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson sat with Vanity Fair to talk about his life, his acting, and “The Rock Philosophy” that helps him create characters.
Along with his inability to give attention to people calling him a one-dimensional actor, the Red Notice star also talked about his early childhood days wherein he had to steal for survival and the reason behind the name of his production company Seven Bucks.
“There are a lot of actors—and a lot of my friends—that utilize the platform of acting to explore their emotional shit. What has worked for me is a lighter touch, as it relates to that. I would prefer not to explore my emotional shit in my movies because for me, that’s my responsibility to go figure it out. That’s a lot of sludge. It’s more important to me to impact as many people as possible on day one. I don’t need acting to work out my personal shit. I work it out on my own.”
The Rock stated that although people have been calling him a “one-dimensional actor” it doesn’t bother him as the “Johnson philosophy” (as he likes to call it) does not include negative reception. The actor’s policy is to simply bring joy to the people. As Black Adam becomes the battlefield of critics and audiences, the fans couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed at how the situation turned out.
Black Adam, A Battlefield Despite The Rock’s Popularity
It was revealed by Dwayne Johnson that he was vying for the role of Black Adam for 15 years! Despite the hard work and efforts that The Rock had put into the marketing of the film, Black Adam received a mixed reception in theaters from critics and audiences. Sitting at a 39% score from critics at Rotten Tomatoes while a whopping score of 90% from the audiences, Black Adam became a battlefield in the history of DC.
This has been a long recurring theme of critics vs audiences when it comes to DC films as Henry Cavill starrer Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) suffered similar fates. Black Adam managed to gather 140 million dollars globally in a short time which in itself is a big achievement for The Rock.
Black Adam is currently running in theaters for the world to see.
