Although Joe Manganiello appeared in the 2020 independent superhero mystery-thriller Archenemy, fans can’t seem to let go of his possible appearance in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel. Despite having everything that is required to be a superhero, Manganiello often seems to be one step away from his deserving superhero role.
Losing his potential Superman role to Henry Cavill, Joe Manganiello was offered a brief consolation appearance at the end of Justice League as Deathstroke. Thus, over the years the actor seemed to cultivate his grudge and frustration for Cavill. However, years later reflecting upon the regretful event of losing a career-boosting opportunity, Manganiello simply claimed to have moved on.
Joe Manganiello Lost His Superman Role To Henry Cavill
Joe Manganiello has been appearing in several big-budget movies throughout his career. However, he simply seems to be failing at fulfilling his desire to appear as a leading superhero in the DC or Marvel universe. Although he was previously chosen to appear as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel, Manganiello still lost the opportunity despite having everything that is required to be a superhero.
When Zack Snyder was preparing for his 2013 debut with DC, he had Joe Manganiello as his second choice for Kal-El, with his first choice being Henry Cavill. “I love Joe too, by the way. Really he was the only other guy I was thinking of, to be honest, other than Henry.” Snyder stated. He further added, “I think Henry just has this innocence too, he has both, which is tricky. Superman needs the teeniest bit of that.”
Thus, eventually, Joe Manganiello was replaced by Henry Cavill to appear as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel. Further, Manganiello was offered a brief consolation role in Snyder’s Justice League as Deathstroke, due to the rapport he had with the acclaimed filmmaker. However, despite the loss of a career-changing opportunity, Manganiello appeared to be at ease with the situation.
Joe Manganiello Confessed Overcoming His Frustration
Years after losing his role in Zack Snyder‘s Man Of Steel as Superman, Joe Manganiello reflected upon his regretful situation. However, with no residual grudge, the actor simply mentioned his friendship with the acclaimed filmmaker. During his 2020 appearance on the Drinks With Johnny podcast, the actor reflected upon his lost role.
Claiming to have a beneficial connection with Snyder, despite losing his Superman role, Joe Manganiello mentioned moving past his frustration. “I don’t like to really dwell on stuff that didn’t happen,” Manganiello claimed. He then added, “I met Zack Snyder through that process.” Reflecting upon his connection with the director, Manganiello mentioned how he was offered the role of Deathstroke.
“He wanted me to be [Superman]. I couldn’t do the movie but Zack came back around and called me, and said ‘I want you to meet Ben Affleck’ and that’s how I met Ben, and that’s how I got cast as Deathstroke in Ben’s Batman movie.” Joe Manganiello shared.
Considering his missed opportunity to play Superman as his best opportunity to meet Zack Snyder, Manganiello mentioned diving into further creative ventures with the filmmaker. Having a positive outlook on his career served him well as he later turned his connection with Snyder into a promising career.
