Chris Pratt’s Hollywood journey is the dream of every star out there. The 43-year-old star, who rose to prominence, starring as Star-Lord in the MCU, starting with Guardians of the Galaxy, stands proud as the star-face of the $28.7 billion franchise. But again, even though James Gunn ended up falling in love with the actor, Pratt recalled that his first audition for Star-Lord wasn’t impressive at all, and he almost fumbled before making it to the top.
James Gunn Saved Chris Pratt From An Epic Disaster
Chris Pratt‘s performance as Star-Lord in MCU hits, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and then continuing to nail the character in films Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder, came with its fair share of turbulences.
During a recent interview, the Parks and Recreation actor recollected how he almost lost the role to an epic disaster but got saved by James Gunn‘s grace. He gives due credit to the director, who pulled him out of poor performance, giving permanence to his role, that led to MCU’s $28.7 billion franchise

Before all that happened, Pratt was stopped in the middle of the audition as Gunn walked towards him and said, “I don’t know what you’re doing, but you’re blowing it.” Pratt, who only heard the words, “blowing it” couldn’t keep his act together.
Gunn being the savior, suggested a “chemistry test”, motivating Pratt with words: “You just need to stop doing whatever you’re doing and just be real. Just be you.” The director then got in David Bautista, everyone’s beloved Drax, and as the chemistry between the two actors worked, Pratt finally emerged as the best Star-Lord ever, and Bautista deserves some credit too!
Star-Lord’s Importance In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
While recent projections continue to worry Marvel as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being predicted to become the lowest-grossing movie in the $1.6B Marvel franchise, fans are more concerned about who would do the ultimate sacrifice.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is set to premiere in May. 5, is supposed to be the “epic conclusion” for the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise. In James Gunn’s words, the third installment would be pretty emotional, shedding light on fan-favorite Rocket Raccoon’s backstory.
Chris Pratt, on the other hand, continues to play his titular role as Peter Quill in the upcoming installation. From fumbling his first audition to becoming James Gunn’s favorite character, the Jurassic World trilogy star spontaneously says the word ‘f*ck’ for the first time in MCU’s history, breaking the decades-old run of clean language tradition.
The moment when Pratt blurted out, “Open the f*cking door,” was so funny that even though it wasn’t a part of the script, James Gunn decided to keep it. Gunn said:
“You can only have one in a PG-13 movie. That said it wasn’t planned – I told Chris to add it on set and it just made the moment funnier so we kept it.”
Fans are curious about who’d perish as a part of the ultimate sacrifice. While Rocket Raccoon and Drax remain the top assumptions, some think that Star-Lord will make the ultimate sacrifice. And if that happens, Chris Pratt’s got nothing to regret, considering his epic journey with the MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy is streaming on Disney+.
